Pubs and Restaurants

We are lucky enough to be surrounded by fantastic pubs and restaurants, both in the countryside and the towns. Here are a few of our favourites.
A lovely traditional pub with great food. Dine inside the quaint building in the cooler months or enjoy the sunny cottage garden in the summer. If you fancy a 45 minute cross country walk, you can get here by foot through the footpaths that cross Whitsbury Farm.

We are so lucky to have such a fantastic pub right next door. Annette and Paul are the most welcoming of hosts. There is something for everyone on their creative menu of freshly cooked food and fantastic local beers and ales to enjoy.

Sightseeing

Our favourite beach. A half hour drive away, Avon Beach is large with plenty to do, yet relatively quiet with lots of parking. The Noisy Lobster is there perfect restaurant to enjoy seafood with lovely views.

Walks

There are plenty of walks on our doorstep. Explore the many footpaths through the village or go further afield to Rockbourne or Breamore. Please reference the Ordnance Survey map in the kitchen.
Venture through the village, explore Whitsbury Stud and see the ancient church at the top of the hill. Turn right out of the cottage and walk up the road towards Whitsbury Manor. When you reach the top, you see a gated road on the right with a sign directing you to the Church. Go through the gate, walk down the slope and turn towards the right at the end and follow the perimeter of the stud fields. You'll eventually reach the church. You can then either exit over the stye at the far end of the graveyard and into the field. Cross dialongally through the field towards the wooden fence on the right hand side. You see another stye that leads to the footpath that comes out next to the cottage. Alternatively, you can exit via the oak gate opposite the entrance to the church and follow the footpath back down to the main road.

Cut cross country through Whitsbury Farm to the next village, Rockbourne, an ancient Roman settlement. Rough directions, please see the Ordnance Survey map. Turn right out of the cottage and go down the footpath on the left hand side just after the cut-de-sac. Follow this footpath past the horse fields and you'll reach the vast open space of Whitsbury Farm. Continue straight and eventually you'll see some houses in the near distance. Turn right down a path that goes through some trees and shrubs and then there is a stye that leads between the back gardens of the properties. Jump over the stye, continue straight and you'll come out on the main road. Turn right down the main road to get to the Rose and Thistle pub. On your return, you can cut past St Andrew's Church and through the farm buildings for an alternative route.

The New Forest National Park

A great spot to take the kids. A huge sandpit with a sleep slope to run down, a brook to paddle in and plenty of horses to see. And, if you fancy exploring, there are lots of footpaths to venture through the Forest.

This seems to be where the donkeys hang out! There are a variety of walks from the Godhill Inclosure car park, venturing along the stream. Pop into the Fighting Cocks pub for a refreshment.
