Essentials / Some Groceries

The Country Store is only 3 minutes away! From Oak Hills Retreat, turn left (east) onto Mistletoe Rd., and it's at the corner of Mistletoe and Sand Creek Rd. Friendly people, helpful with information if needed, and essential groceries, snacks, and other items!
To get to the Country Store, turn left onto Mistletoe Rd. and then turn right at the stop sign onto Sand Creek Rd. It's right on the corner of Mistletoe and Sand Creek. Some groceries, beer, soda, ice cream. A good place to ask for information--clerks there are very helpful!

Parks & Nature

Many trails, wonderful Giant Sequoia trees, animals. Right next to Kings Canyon Park, which is only 40 minutes away. The 180 highway entrance to Kings Canyon and Sequoia is MUCH easier to drive compared to the 198 entrance from Visalia, which has a lot of tight curves.

Cat Haven features rescued lions, jaguars, panthers and other large cats. Dirt trail will require light to moderate hiking ability with slight to moderate hills. Very interesting and great for children. Gift shop with souvenirs. Great for kids and adults alike! We will leave detailed info on hours, etc., on the table when you get to the rental!

Should I take the 180 or the 198 highway to Sequoia?

What is the difference between the 180 highway (from Fresno) and the 198 highway (from Visalia)? We have traveled both routes many times, and the biggest difference is that the 198 highway has SEVERAL very sharp curves, which can cause motion sickness, and is a problem for longer vehicles. In fact, vehicles 22' or longer are prohibited on the 198 between Potwisha (a campground just inside the 198 Sequoia entrance) and Giant Forest. The 180 highway from Fresno, on the other hand, is much easier driving, fewer sharp curves, and also, is much closer to Oak Hills Retreat!
The airport is about an hour from Oak Hills Retreat.

Shopping

A lot of nice stores and restaurants, both fast food and sit-down. Nicest area of Fresno.
