Alexandros, is named after the greek warrior Alexander the Great, whose birthplace was the home town of owner Aris Pathanoglou. First opened in 1997 in Scotland, we moved to a new home in Carlisle, Cumbria in 2000.
We are a family run greek restaurant using traditional greek recipes with a British twist using seasonal home-grown herbs, fruits and flowers, alongside fresh local produce.

The Amato family moved to England from Sicily in 1960. From there the Amato brothers established themselves in Carlisle by introducing the Italian way of Tailoring.
Filippo Amato, the son of Nicky Amato, discovered he had a special passion for cooking.
Having gained over 18 years’ experience in various countries across Europe, Filippo has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to cuisine.
With his Sicilian heritage, Italian and Sicilian cuisine is where his passion and expertise lie, and now together with his sister Rosa, Filippo gives you
