Founded by monks, visited by kings, attacked by Vikings and marched through by Normans and Cromwell, Lismore has an immensely colourful history you’re sure to want to linger over. A center of monastic education for centuries, Lismore was established by St Carthage in 636 and his monastery flourished, with Irish High Kings learning from great saints and scholars. Built by King John in 1185 to guard the river, Lismore Castle was lived in by Sir Walter Raleigh, He then sold it to the Earl of Cork, whose family lost the castle twice, the second time through marriage to the Cavendish family, who, as the Dukes of Devonshire rebuilt it into the gothic marvel it is today. 🚗 Located 25 minutes drive from Dungarvan 🚌 Take the Local Link Bus to Tallow (363) from Dungarvan Plan your journey here: www.transportforireland.ie

The Gaeltach “An Rinn” is an Irish Centre with its own heritage and culture, nestling on the west side of Dungarvan Bay. A tiny gaelic speaking community of about 800 people that has somehow survived in what is otherwise one of Ireland’s more developed counties. The language survives as do other traditions, notably traditional music and set dancing. An Rinn is best known for its prestigious Colaiste Na Rinne. An Rinn is the perfect place if one wishes to experience real Irish culture. Six miles west of the friendly town of Dún Garbhán (Dungarvan) and overlooking Dungarvan Harbour and Muggort’s Bay lies the small coastal Gaeltacht area of Waterford. Nestling against the backdrop of the lovely Comeragh Mountains this Gaeltacht region embraces the Parish of Rinn Ua gCuanach (Ring) and An Sean Phobal (Old Parish). It is a world apart, in its welcoming people, its scenery, its landscapes, seascapes and above all its cultural vitality. The love of Irish music, song, dance and language is infectious in An Rinn. A spontaneous desire to share tradition with the visitor can erupt at any time in any of the welcoming local hostelries. 🚗 15 minute drive from Dungarvan 🚌 Local Link Bus available (361 St Declan NS)

Ardmore is the oldest Christian Settlement in Ireland, founded by St. Declan circa 416 AD., before the arrival of St. Patrick. St. Declan’s feast day is celebrated on ‘Pattern Day’ every 24th of July. The village is most picturesque and its neatness has won Ardmore many awards, including the national title in the Tidy Towns Competition. Visitors have five lovely beaches to choose from but the Cliff Walk / St Declan's Walk is top on the list of recommendations from us. 🚗 20 minutes from Dungarvan 🚌 From the Local Link bus, 361St Declan's NS, stop 244611
