Sightseeing

A must do. The Rose Garden (top right hand side) is fabulous all through summer and a lovely place to bring a coffee. In Spring, the cherry blossoms (close to Rose Garden) and daffodils near the top gate are lovely. The view from the observatory is great all year round. Bandstand concerts 3pm Sundays July & August are nice for a picnic.

The Greenwich Observatory is at the top of the hill in the park. Walk along the road for a slightly easier walk or diagonally up the hill on the footpaths for a great view. Definitely worth a visit. The Planetarium is in the same spot with a great night sky cinema. The National Maritime museum is at the top of our road (entrance on left just before gates to park) and the Cutty Sark at the bottom of the road - you can now book to climb the rigging which we can definitely recommend - choose the option where you go all the way to the top, it is worth the extra! www.rmg.co.uk

Potter through the Greenwich market, grab some lunch (beef brisket rolls from vintage van highly recommended) and eat it on the grass at the Old Royal Naval College while you listen to the music students practice or watch a movie being filmed (this is a backdrop for more movies than you might realise). Pop into the Queen’s House (free) to admire the architecture and art or the famous Painted Hall (you might recognise it from Pirates of the Caribbean). Listen to a classical music concert for free in the chapel opposite the Painted Hall. www.ornc.org

Morning coffee in the Herb Garden

Coffee and pastries at Gails a few doors down from the house are delicious, and easy to grab and take to the Herb Garden just inside the gate to the park on the right.

Jazz & a nightcap

There is an atmospheric underground jazz bar secreted away at the top of our street - turn right at the gates to the park for Oliver’s. The jazz is excellent and on most nights.

Fancy a walk

For a walk, try strolling up to Blackheath Village through the park & heath - if you want to go a little further add a loop through the gorgeous Cator Estate, then grab lunch in the village before heading back down, or if in the evening try steak at Buenos Aires Cafe before a bus/uber back to Greenwich.

The best way to travel

Leaves from the bottom of the street - just past the Cutty Sark. If you have time, this is the most enjoyable way into the city and also goes to the O2.

Food shopping

Our favourite is the new ALDI which is a 5 minute walk and till-less - install the Aldi Shop and Go app on your phone before you go, scan it to enter, pick up what you want and just leave! So convenient. There is also a small Marks & Spencer beside the Cutty Sark, a big Waitrose about a 10 minute walk away on Creek Road, and small Tesco’s and Sainsburys within 5 minutes walk.
