Food scene
Overlooking Trebarwith Strand beach, this pub can get busy and you can’t book tables, so get there early. A great place for watching the sun go down, and even better – you can walk there! It takes about an hour along the coastal path, or just 30 minutes across fields.
To take the coastal path route, see the instructions below on how to reach the path from the village, and turn right at the intersection on the way down to Tregardock beach, heading uphill and northbound. Follow the path down into Backways Cove and back up again, and cross the field at the top, taking the steps down from there to the pub.
Alternatively, to take the shorter route, turn left out of the Lookout parking area, and follow the road round to a little dead-end lane on the left. Turn down here, walking past Poole Barn on your left. Further along the lane is a metal gate. Pass through this, and walk past an old derelict house and barn. On the right hand side, just past the barn, you will find a wooden gate to a field (with a sign warning about livestock). Turn into this first field and then follow the small yellow arrows, which are sometimes quite tricky to spot!), and then a series of green signs through several fields. Eventually you’ll come to a road in Trebarwith village. Turn left, and follow this road down, until you reach a wooden gate to some more fields (on the left), opposite Trebarwith Farm. Follow the footpath signs from here, all the way down to the pub car park.
Lunch served from 12pm – 3pm, and dinner served from 6pm – 9pm. Food all freshly cooked on the premises, and a good specials board.

The Port William

Port Gaverne is a beautiful little bay just down the hill from Port Isaac – well worth a visit in its own right. You can even walk the whole way there, if you fancy working up an appetite! It’s a lovely day out, and a great spot to stop for lunch, and you can then take the no. 96 bus from Port Isaac just up the hill, back to Westdowns, which is at the top of the road down into Treligga.
Pilchards beach café, just next door to the pub, has great views over the bay.

It’s about a 6 mile walk from Treligga (fairly up and down along the coastal path, but takes less than 4 hours.
Alternatively, you can park in the National Trust car park at Port Quin, and it takes about 1½ hours along the coastal path, to walk from there to Port Gaverne, passing through Port Isaac first, or just ½ an hour following the inland footpath. One of our favourite walks – although it’s very steep in parts, so you need good knees for the coastal route!

You’ll need to book quite far ahead for dinner during the busy periods, unless you’re happy to take a late sitting, but it’s usually not too bad for a lunchtime sitting. A real experience.
