Eat, Play and See!

There is a wonderful Beginner’s Yoga Class on Thursday’s led by local teacher Karin. It is held in the wonderfully quaint community center (think Call the Midwife pageant play/gymnasium/clinic!). It is Thursday at 7:00 PM and a 15 minute walk from The Highland Club (up the hill via footpath right past the Petrol station).

A good pair of boots will be your best friend (and take advantage of the boot cleaner right outside of our closest exterior door!). Hiking is King in The Highlands, and you can easily walk to all Fort Augustus attractions, restaurants and facilities on foot. To visit other Highland cities, you can definitely take a bus and the stop is a 5 minute walk away (at the Petrol station). The 919 goes to Fort William. There is free parking at The Highland Club and car is the best way to slowly take your time and see the neighboring villages and perhaps travel to see the coastline.

This sleeper train is a fabulous way to travel from London all the way up to Fort William (and then to Fort Augustus via short bus ride). It also picks up in Edinburgh and services Aberdeen and Inverness along with other small towns. It is an ideal way to travel, but tickets should be booked ahead of your trip!

The Highland Club recommends booking a slot at the pool and saunas on the day you plan to use it, but you CAN book ahead if you know for certain you will use the booking (it limits the amount of people so the pool is enjoyable for all). I like to book a day (or even two) ahead of time to make sure I get the slot I want.

You will most likely need boots and a windbreaker at some point during your trip, no matter the time of year! A light windbreaker that sheds water outside and keeps warm inside is a Scottish must! Bring a swimsuit if you plan to use the pool, steam room or sauna! You may also want to pack gym shoes for the gym and tennis courts (we have rackets you can borrow here). Though the apartment is self catering, there are some items in the pantry that you are welcome to use such as salt, pepper, some condiments, etc. If you have extra non perishables, feel free to leave them for next guests.

The Highland Club is wonderful for children! It is especially magical for those interested in Harry Potter as it has a very Hogwarts vibe to it! We have a bunk bed in the lower snug and trundle bed in the upper snug as well as a small toddler mattress and an air mattress that can be used on the floor of the master bedroom for smaller children that you want to keep close. There are bathtubs for washing up as well. Children should not run in the halls as they may slip or run into other guests. They should also be supervised at all times as Loch Ness is right out the front door.
