Astonishingly delicious wine, coffee and, if you’re lucky, Italian nibbles. It’s in the market square.

Don’t miss Faversham market: the charter market is every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Best of Faversham is great fun; lots of local food stalls and hand-made products. The wonderful antique market is the first Sunday of every month.

The most beautiful fruit and vegetables, foodie produce and the best delicatessen counter this side of Fortnum and Mason’s. Not just a shopping trip, it’s a destination, with lovely cafes, coffee outside, gifts to buy and The Floral Madam for plants.

Incredible sourdough, delicious vegan snacks and bread-based items, great coffee and tea, all served with oat milk. Either visit the bakery behind the Recreation Ground or pick up a loaf and a cardamom bun at the market.

A beautiful shingly beach right on the marshes with a wistful beauty, a perfect spot for wild swimming or a sunny, chilly winter walk. You can drive there in ten minutes, or walk along the creek via Nagden and out along the sea wall. It’s a good hour or so to walk there, through incredible nature reserve and bird sanctuary. Watch the murmurations out across the sea as you go. There’s a little cafe at a campsite for a cup of tea when you get there, but check opening hours or take a picnic. Alternatively, splash out (and book well ahead!) for the Michelin starred restaurant, The Sportsman.

Faversham Creek and Boatyard walk

We love walking along the creek and through the marshes. Go into the market square in town, turn right and continue to Abbey Street. You’ll come to the gorgeous traditional Anchor pub and behind that is Faversham boatyard. Walk past the antique barns and the sourdough pizza restaurant, Papa Bianco. You’ll reach the working boatyard, always a fascinating place to view the work being done on the historical boats. Carry on our along the ridge and you can do a loop across the little bridge - just keep going left to Nagden - and then head back in towards St Mary’s beautiful spire and the town.

Faversham’s Magna Carta

Faversham’s Magna Carta, dating from 1300 and rediscovered not so long ago, it is said, in a drawer, has been suitably upgraded and the new exhibition space is professional, stylish and beautiful. It opens on May 28th, 2022 at 12 Market Place, and you can also see some additional very beautiful charters.
