Our Sister-in-law and Niece booked a 1 hour trip with Over the Hill Outfitters and loved their ride and guide. The ride takes place on a private 1200 acre ranch. They said the scenery was great!

If you want to see wildflowers this is the place to go, especially July-August. As the trail heads up the hillside out of the parking area the wildflowers from July-August are spectacular. Directions: From town head north on Hwy 550 past Purgatory Resort toward Silverton. Coal Bank Pass is 35 miles north of Durango, 13.5 miles south of Silverton, on Hwy 550. Slow down after mile marker 56 (it’s between mm 56 and 57), and you will see a parking area and restroom facility on the east side of the road at Coal Bank Pass with a pull off spot with restroom facilities (but don’t park there). Instead, there is a dirt road to the west which is close to the trail head (opposite the rest area) with a small parking area; it is hard to see, so slow down. You will see the trailhead heading north from the parking lot; start there. Make sure you have plenty of water, warm layers, and rain gear. It is best to get there early if you can to avoid afternoon showers and a full parking lot. https://www.durangotrails.org/trails/high-country-trails/engineer-mountain-trail/

It is a rare thing to ride on a railway anywhere like this that cuts through the mountains on the way to Silverton. Truly spectacular no matter what time of year as the train follows the Animas (River of Lost Souls). At times you will wonder how they ever made the route happen over 100 years ago.

Food trucks your thing? This place always looks like it is hopping and there is more seating than you see from the road. Located downtown Durango corner of 11th and Main. Was the site of an old gas station. Fun car parts decorations, you gotta see the bathroom. Often there is live music.

This is a fun "outdoor" eatery just south of Purgatory Resort. The views are wonderful and the food is very good. Great reasonably priced sliders, and fries, my fav. Worth a stop.

This is a place that the hamburgers stand out from anywhere else. They have other items on their menu as well. The beef is from the grass fed cows on the working ranch that the restaurant is located on. This is a local family who is well known and a great part of the Durango community. The seating is indoor or outdoor with great views looking over the valley north of Durango. If you choose to sit outside you will love that too. I especially love eating outside there on the tables on the lawn and the great views of the ranch. They know how to do food. And while you are there take a stroll through their market. of gifts, meat, greens, cheese and a chocolate :-) Wonderful!

The long time owners of Ken and Sue's recently sold to their chef. I don't have current pictures. If you want something upscale, you can't go wrong with Ken and Sue's. Long time Durango staple. Super awesome service and amazing well-plated and "gotta take one more bite even though I'm full" kind of good.

交通アクセス

Drink plenty of water

Even though Durango is a mountain community it is a "high desert" meaning that the humidity is very low. That along with the altitude (our home is at about 7,000 feet) creates a need for proper hydration to avoid altitude sickness. You won't do much "getting around" to see the sites if you are feeling ill.
