Food scene

These are some of the restaurants that stand out for us all within a half hour from the Rancho Peregrino.
If you like a place with local craft beers and happy hour appetizers, you might want to try out the Pecan Grill. You might think of it as American-ized Mexican food but they also have standard fare like burgers, fish and chips, and salmon. There's bar seating and a restaurant depending on your preference for the evening.

We found this place after searching for good mole in Las Cruces. Hard to believe, right? You would think mole would be available everywhere around here. We also also like the menu items which are pretty reasonable given the ambiance and quality of the food. Depending on the night you go, it can be totally empty or totally packed. Busiest on weekends.

The Double eagle is a bar/casual dining restaurant but there is a more formal dining area called Peppers. This restaurant is in competition with La Posta restaurant which is a historic and very popular Mexican restaurant with excellent Margaritas. You could always try both (drinks at one and a meal at the other). They are walking distance from one another.

These folks make some of the best wines we've had in New Mexico. The food is moderately priced but go there for the wine and try some flights before making your final selection.

Sightseeing

Southern New Mexico has some incredible scenery. It's not just the sunsets that look spectacular here. The desert has a unique beauty that rivals even the most verdant landscapes. Take the time to explore the Organ Mountain hiking trails. It's a great place for bird-watching and appreciating the flora and fauna.
The tiny town of Mesilla was established on Mexico’s northern frontier in 1848. It is west of the Rio Grande and El Camino Real. The town has evolved from a rebellious frontier to one of New Mexico’s grandest historical communities. The San Albino church has a prominent role in the community’s history and in 2008, the church was recognized as one of two basilicas in the state of New Mexico. We are proud to have restored a historical adobe building on the transportation block. And if you visit Mesilla, stop by at El Rincon de Mesilla for a free coffee and a tour of the restored building. Tell them Joe and Elaine sent you and the cafe owners, Juan and Claudia will give you the VIP treatment.

Artisanal

The Rincon is a coffee shop and artisanal store with curated Mexican furniture, artwork, shoes, handbags, jewelry and more. But what makes it REALLY special are the owners, Juan and Claudia. They follow the "Cheers" model and will ask and remember your name. They treat their customers like family. Just look them up on Facebook and you'll see how engaged they are with everyone who walks through the door from actors to infants. Coming Soon- Joe will unveil his epoxy river tables and sculptures there in the Spring of 2022.

Wine and Beer

These are our favorite local wine and beer spots - all within 30 minutes or less of the Rancho Peregrino.
Yes we're biased because we own and designed the building, but this tiny bar stands on its own merits. They book band from a variety of genres including blues, jazz, country western, soul, hipster... There's trivia night, stretching Sundays and you can even order food from the famous La Posta restaurant across the street; its delivered to your table. The wines and beers are local and so are many of the patrons who see it as a place to make friends and chill out. It's just one of the great places in the great town of Mesilla.
