There's a lot to explore in this area, with the Wynoochee Dam complex and hiking opportunities. The lake used to offer good swimming but in recent years the water level is really low in reservoir so it isn't quite as good, but you will find some beautiful forest and a great spot for a family picnic alone the shores of the reservoir.

There is so much to explore on the Long Beach peninsula and Fort Canby is a good place to start. Do some research on all there is in the area.

I haven't actually been here since I was maybe 9 years old, but I still remember absolutely loving Sol Duc. The hot springs, the local trails to some very beautiful lakes and the forest that surrounds it all are just magical, even on a rainy day!

Drenched in over 12 feet of rain a year, Olympic's west side valleys flourish with North America's best remaining examples of temperate rain forest. Giant western hemlocks, Douglas-firs and Sitka spruce trees dominate the landscape while ferns and moss cloak the trees and forest floor. In these valleys, even the air seems green.

I can't say enough about this museum. If you want to understand the growth of the logging industry on the Olympia Peninsula during the early part of the 20th century, you will find it all here. HIGHLY recommend.
