Great for Vegans and vegetarians! This is my favorite lunch spot in Hood River. The food is amazing, especially the pizzas. Seriously, try the Siragusa Pear pizza, it is life-changing. Solstice is located down by the marina beach and is also dog-friendly!

Serving lunch and dinner - go for the STEAK and burgers. They are famous for their MEAT. Do not stray. I was very dissapointed in the salad I ordered and everyone scoffed - you don't go to Huntington's for salad, you go for steak and homemade cheesecake. If you don't eat meat, just have a beer ;) Note: This place is not cheap, you will pay the same as you do for a steak in the city.

Now with new owners and rebranded, The Sand Bar & Grill serves up lunch and dinner, and has a full bar featuring local favorites, but is also family friendly before 7pm. They serve great burgers, pizzas, salads and always have a daily special. Stop in for a game of pool or to watch the big game on one of their large screen TVs. This is my go-to local "Cheers" bar, where you always have a good time with friendly locals.

Exceptional beer! It's a bit of a trek, about 30 minutes west, but oh boy is it worth it. I love the Homo Erectus, but if you like stouts, The Big Black Homo is scrumptious! My favorite is the Black Cherry Stout, made with luscious local bing cherries!. I like to stop and fill my growler before heading back to SF. You'll want a t-shirt, they are cool and too funny! NOTE: Get a designated driver or plan for a hike following your tasting - their beers have a high alcohol content.

This Mt Hood destination is famous for being the hotel (exterior) featured in The Shining. There is a casual restaurant ($$), historic bar or a fine dining ($$$$) restaurant to suit your mood and budget. There is year round skiing and snowboarding, and the Mile-High gondola ride that offers great views. The beautiful drive through orchards and forests is almost as rewarding as the destination so don't forget to enjoy the journey ;)

Ok, its just a general store, but its really cute, and a great place for lunch, dinner or to pick up hiking snacks, beer, wine, whatever, and its a great scenic drive from Lyle. You can get to Glenwood through White Salmon, or via Klickitat on Hwy 142. This is a great destination in itself or a stop over en route to the Ice Caves in Trout lake. Plus, the owner, Claude McKenzie is a childhood friend and an awesome guy. His mom, Alicia is typically cooking in the back. Go say hello! You might even get a glimpse of Sasquatch ;)

It's breathtaking, go for just the view from below, take the easy walk to the bridge or if you are adventurous and active, you can take the more strenuous hike to to the top!!! If you have the time, there is a scenic hwy from Troutdale (Portland) to Cascade Locks that will take you by Multnomah and may waterfalls along the way. In the summer, be sure to wear shorts or swimsuits so you can jump in and cool off along the way!

This trail is just down the street, across the Klickitat Hwy. Walk down, enjoy the views. there are several splinter trails along the way that you can walk down to go fishing. About 1/2 a mile down you will see a road crossing the trail, follow it down to our local swimming hole. It's Redneck Riviera, don't forget your PBR! Note: Inconsiderate peeps leave litter, I always bring a plastic bag to take my trash, plus pick up after others.

Great beach for sailboarding, or on a calm day launch your kayak, paddle board or just relax on the beach and enjoy a swim. Note: This is a state park, so "the man" requires a Discovery Parking Pass" which can be purchased at the Lyle Merc $30 and is good for ALL state parks in the Gorge. You can pay by the day, I think it's $5, but if you will around for a while it's worth it to buy the pass.

An Ice Cave is a lava tube which probably was formed during a pahoehoe basaltic lava flow of the late Pleistocene or Recent geologic time. The Native Americans used them to store huckleberries and obtain fresh water. When the pioneers moved into the area, cave ice was harvested to chill drinks at the local taverns. The caves are best explored in the spring when you can see the intricate ice formations that last until early summer. Even in the summer when the ice had melted, its still pretty cool - literally, its a great way to beat the extreme summer heat. The Ice caves are about 5 miles outside Trout Lake, Wa, about a 45 min drive. There is a parking lot, restroom and stairway to the ice cave floor conveniently provided. This is Huckleberry country. Go thru Glenwood and stop at the General Store for lunch, dinner or snacks.
