Here are some of our favorite local dining options that we happily recommend for your enjoyment.
Hillsboro Brewing is a great trip for beverages and food. They not only brew their own beer but hard seltzers and root beer as well. Their food options are strong from next-level burgers and salads, to pizzas that always satisfy. The building itself is worth the trip, a restored brick 1890 two story warehouse, just a casual walk around the building is a treat.

We find Christy’s to be a warm atmosphere with very good coffee and excellent bakery and lunchtime options. Check their hours of operation on their social media page, they seasonally adjust during the year.

Authentic Latin American food, we recommend the La Parilla, (The Little Grill). A meal for 2, really for 3-4, with flavorful grilled meats and cheese served table side, and plenty of sides. Excellent flavors if you are into grilled foods. There are many other options for those who may enjoy vegan foods as well. The drink selection is outstanding as well. They are open 7 days a week!
La Fritanga, Latín Food

If you are looking for a great Friday Night Fish Fry, or a great locally-raised burger on Thursday or Saturday night, the Branding Iron is your place. Not a fancy place, truly a roadhouse, but the food is very worth the trip and they are typically not open Sunday thru Weds.

If you like good Chinese food, quick, and friendly, China Inn is a great option! Typically takeout is the best move but they do have in-store dining available. Closed on Tuesday.

Pine River Smoke (Richland Center) isn’t your run of the mill BBQ joint. With Carry-out-Tuesdays (which almost always sell out) and seating by reservation only on Friday and Saturday, they are only serving the best smoked meat items. Check out their brisket and beans, they are the most flavorful we have had. Also Chris and Doug are as friendly as they come, if you start a conversation with Doug and tell him you are staying at Marty’s cabins by Ithaca, be prepared for a half-hour discussion. Call them in advance always.

Arthur’s is the place for a dressier steak and Old Fashioned option. We recently (January 2024) went and had the best steak we’ve had in the 5-county area in some time. (Get the mushrooms and burgundy sauce) A somewhat typical supper club menu, supper club feel, and the staff was very good.
They have excellent ice cream drinks and unlike many bartenders at other places, don’t mind when you actually order them. (Grasshopper, Brandy Alexander, etc.)
