The lake Amelia is an old crater full of rain water that was gathered over time and is covered with a sort of a “carpet” of floating vegetation. This tour is also an oportunity for some bird watching.

Although quite challenging in the heat and humidity, this is definitely worth a visit, as the forest is so beautiful and crater the Amelia Lagoon so interesting. As it can be combined with a stroll through the botanical gardens, which are somewhat neglected, despite the best efforts of the small but enthusiastic staff, it is a must do. At least the altitude makes the air a little colder!
