Groceries

Places to buy groceries
Acme is located in Unity Plaza in Hopewell Junction and is about a 10 minute drive. They have a good selection of produce, meat, beer, and really anything you'd need.

Hands down, my favorite grocery store. This place is magic! Super fresh produce and meats, a really superb selection. They do not sell alcohol, and you do need to shop the old-fashioned way, in-person, with a cart.

Hiking

Hosner Mountain Trail (3.8 mile loop, Difficulty: Easy to Moderate): This is the trail that is right next to the house. You can walk up the road to the west of the property and you’ll come to the trail.

Storm King Mountain (2.5 mile loop, Difficulty: 6 out of 10): If you’re looking for a steep, quick climb to some of the best views of the Hudson Valley, this is your hike! It’s about a 25 minute drive from Barkstone.

Breakneck Ridge (3.7 mile loop, Difficulty: 10 out of 10): The most popular hiking trail in the region is about 10 minutes away driving. Can be crowded and challenging at points (lots of rock scrambling) but offers some insane views!

Hike Mount Beacon (2.4, 4.4 or 7.7 miles, Difficulty: 5, 7 or 10 depending on how far you go): The address is at Bob’s Corner Store, 640 Wolcott Avenue, if you have Google Maps. If you can’t find it from there, just ask the guy at the shop. It’s a 15-minute walk away and a GREAT and challenging uphill hike. Especially if you make it to the top of the fire tower. If you’re particularly brave, the trail connects to the larger Hudson Highlands trail network, for some serious hiking.

Fishkill Ridge (4.4 miles up and back, 9 out of 10): This one connects to Mt. Beacon, but begins a bit more flat/wooded (great if the intense uphill of Mt. Beacon is a bit much for you). Its trailhead is a bit hidden. Google Maps for “Pocket Rd” in Beacon and walk to the end of this very short road and keep going. You’ll pass what looks like a giant storage cylinder of some sort, and the trail begins.
