Beauties of nature
Dear guest, please find below some unique natural sights you can enjoy during your stay at Stari Mlin
B&B. Based on my experiences I have put together a list of few places I found very nice around this area.
This is the Gorge of the river Tolminka, it is roughly an hour and a half circular tour around the
river through a 2.5 km long path. Very nice it is also the Devil's bridge wich is located on top of the
park (about 60 mt above the river)

Djvie Jezero and Idrijska Bela are two natural spots which are worth a visit.
At about 30 min car drive you can admire the beauty of this lake (which is literally two minutes walking distance from the car park).
From the lake you can either choose to drive or walk towards Idrijska Bela (6.5 km) where you'll find a nice organised beach with swimming spots, playground, bbq areas, toilets, bar etc.
If you prefer more the wilderness all along the way to Bela there are natural swimming spots where you can stop for a swim.

Wild Lake
Djvie Jezero and Idrijska Bela are two natural spots which are worth a visit.
At about 30 min car drive you can admire the beauty of this lake (which is literally two minutes walking distance from the car park).
From the lake you can either choose to drive or walk towards Idrijska Bela (6.5 km) where you'll find a nice organised beach with swimming spots, playground, bbq areas, toilets, bar etc.
If you prefer more the wilderness all along the way to Bela there are natural swimming spots where you can stop for a swim.

Most na Soči

Not as popular as other waterfalls in the area but for sure one of the most beautiful is Slap Sopota, which is also one of the tallest.

Around 20 minutes drive from the B&B.

This is a very famous waterfall in Kobarid area. Located inside a gorge with a natural pool
underneath, it has a drop of about 15 mt. Easy walk to reach the waterfall.

This is a very famous waterfall in Kobarid area. Located inside a gorge with a natural pool
underneath, it has a drop of about 15 mt. Easy walk to reach the waterfall.
Another big waterfall to be seen in the area it is Slap Boka, this time near Bovec. From the parking
area, in order to reach the best view point (from below) you must walk about 10/15 minutes till you
reach a wooden platform (good point to take pictures).

About 1.5 hour drive from Stari Mlin, this is a spectacular cave, UNESCO heritage site.
You can only enter the cave with an organised guided tour, they are included in the ticket price

Izvir Soce (Soca River source) it's a quite unique natural sight. It's a 15 minutes steep but easy walk from the park main entrance where you can also find a parking lot.
The last part of the walk is protected with ropes, you should wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
If you are keen on a longer walk I suggest you to walk along the Soca trail and visit aso Velika Corita (Big Gorge)(about 15 km away from the source).

I recommend to take the train that takes you from Most na Soči
train station to Bohinjska Bistrica. You can accomodate your car on the train (avtovlak) and travel to the lake by car on a train (quite interesting experience!)
Activities you can do at the lake: swimming, walking along the lake, rent a sup/kayak/canoa, trying to climb a rock wall.
On the way back you can either take a train or just drive from there to our home (about 1 hour 15 minutes).
I would recommend this trip to anyone, in particular to families with children

You can consider a daily trip while staying at our b&b.
I recommend to take the train that takes you from Most na Soči
train station to Bohinjska Bistrica. You can accomodate your car on the train (avtovlak) and travel to the lake by car on a train (quite interesting experience!)
Activities you can do at the lake: swimming, walking along the lake, rent a sup/kayak/canoa, trying to climb a rock wall.

Museums
This part of Slovenja is not just about natural beauties, there are also some interesting museum you can visit.
This is a truly unique institution in the area. Not only a memory of the First World War but also a great collection of images and writings of that time.
It is also impressive the amount of war relics that were found and preserved in this museum.
Kobarid Museum is located in Kobarid town, about 30 minutes drive from the B&B.

Nice little church above a hill built in 1916 (during world war I). It is dedicated to Austro-
Hungarian fallen soldiers during the war.

Very interesting visit to Idrija' s rich mining history.
The tour starts with the screening of a short video that explain the history of the mine, from its discovery to its expansion.
During the second part of the tour you are required to wear a coat and a helmet and a guide will take you to the real visit of the mine.
Maybe not the best if you suffer from "claustrophobia" ;).
The tour lasts about 1.5 hours, it is guided and the guides speak different languages.

Maybe not the best if you suffer from "claustrophobia" ;).
The tour lasts about 1.5 hours, it is guided and the guides speak different languages.

Food scene
Slovenjan food options are varied.
A gastronomic specialty of the Idrija area is "Idrijski zlikrofi" and I would recommend to try them at least once.
It s a "slovenian dumpling" stuffed with potatoes, lard and chives served with mince meat sauce or other types of sauce.
Other common options are: dairy products, meat (mainly pork) , sea and fresh water fish, vegetables, legumes and cakes (can t miss the traditional walnuts potica and palacinke)
This is the closest restaurant to our b&b and the food is pretty good. Palacinke are amazing.
You can drive there in about 2 minutes or you can have a nice walk through the wood along the river (about 15/20 mins)

Average quality food but very strategic if you are planning a train trip as the restaurant is just outside "Most na soci" train station (Postaja).
You can stop here on your way out or on your way back to the station
