About a half hour from Saranac Lake, this is a great place to spend the day and enjoy its Wild Walk, a wooden pathway built at tree top level. From their website: Find new ways to connect with nature through outdoor experiences like Forest Music, naturalist-led guided canoe trips, Barney Bellinger’s Welded Steel: Shape, Form & Light, and get to know some of the Adirondack animal ambassadors that call The Wild Center home.f

Out in the middle of nowhere, you’ll get a feel for how sparsely populate the Adirondacks are for year round residents during your drive out there (half hour drive or so). But when you visit, here’s what you’ll encounter - The Six Nations Iroquois Cultural Center provides for the viewing of 3000-plus artifacts with an emphasis on the culture of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy (Haudenosaunee). The Six Nations are: Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca and Tuscarora. The center features story telling lectures; gift shop carries Mohawk baskets, beadwork, books, t-shirts, silver jewelry, and acrylic paintings that reflects Six Nations culture.

Nice atmosphere for great Italian food. Doesn’t look like much from the outside but the food is delicious, especially their complimentary bruschetta dip, served with warm homemade bread.

Eat early!

Sometimes our little town gets so many visitors that there are long waits for local restaurants. Check hours in advance and be aware that certain days (like Monday) many restaurants in Saranac Lake are closed - just hop on over to Lake Placid or Tupper Lake that night!
