This is a summer-time must!!!!! We can't get enough of Sliding Rock!!!
Sliding Rock is a 60-foot natural water slide that ends in an 8-foot deep pool of water, with 2 observation platforms, operated by Adventure Pisgah. Nearly 11,000 gallons of water per minute power this natural wonder.
Onlookers can watch the fun from two observation platform.
The site is staffed from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day and is open 7 days a week. This area is heavily used between the hours of 12 noon and 4 pm.
The recreation area may close due to heavy rainfall and increased water levels. The area is open 365 days a year, weather and water levels permitting, but only has restrooms available seven days a week April 30-October 9, then weekends only October 15-30. Lifeguards are present everyday May 2-September 15. When not staffed, there are no lifeguards and restrooms are closed.

On this site in 1898, Dr. Carl Schenck, chief forester for George Vanderbilt’s Biltmore Estate, founded the Biltmore Forest School, the first forestry school in the U.S.
This 6,500-acre site in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, NC was established to “preserve, develop, and make available to this and future generations the birthplace of forestry and forestry education in America.”
The Cradle of Forestry’s Forest Discovery Center features interactive exhibits and a 28-minute movie – First in Forestry: Carl Schenck and the Biltmore Forest School – that premiered last year on PBS and was funded in part by a grant from the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area. Visitors can “ride” a fire fighting helicopter simulator over a forest fire, then crawl underground and see the animals that live beneath the forest floor.
Outdoor activities include several guided trails which lead to historical buildings, a 1915 Climax logging locomotive, and an old sawmill.
The Cradle of Forestry offers many summer programs, including the popular Songcatchers’ Music Series which showcases traditional Appalachian music in an outdoor amphitheater (Sundays afternoons in July).
