To get those killer mountain views, you will need to travel some back roads. Our roads are well maintained and paved, making them easy for those used to backcountry mountain travel. However, they can be considered intimidating to those of us that are “flatlanders”. While they may seem daunting at first, if you go slowly at your own pace, we promise the drive is manageable and well worth it! Please note that although snow is rare in Wears Valley, it can happen, and travel may be impeded by bad weather. Please plan accordingly – snow chains are required in slick weather.

Although populated, Wears Valley is mostly a rural area as far as stores are concerned. Please stock up on supplies prior to your arrival to the cabin. There are several convenience stores and one local country store within about a 10 minute drive from the cabin, but the drive is down the mountain and the stores have limited hours and supplies.

If you are like us and used to a fast-paced environment, be prepared to settle down and relax (it can be hard at first!). You will be very pleasantly surprised by the welcoming culture - everyone says hello!

There are bears that frequent the cabin and surrounding area. We have even seen a bobcat! So, wildlife abounds. Please keep your distance, and all food, toothpaste, and perfume items locked safely away in the cabin, your car, or in a bear-proof receptacle. Very important: Feeding black bears is illegal in Tennessee. The violation is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 and six months in jail. The local authorities are quite serious about this, and several tourists have gotten themselves into trouble. Enjoy from a distance!
