Best of Both Worlds 614 Ocracoke Way BHI
Food scene
Good food at a reasonable price. We have never been disappointed after any of our frequent visits to Delphina's. It is also a vavorite of other homeowners on Bald Head Island. Delphina's is off the beaten path and easy to miss unless you are specifically looking for it. They close early. They do not take reservations and wait time before 6pm better than after 6pm. Delphinas is owned by a colorful local character named Harper Peterson who is the former Mayor of Wilmington and recently was the State Senator for the area but Harper is "hands on" and the last time I spoke with him he was washing dishes and taking out the trash at Delphina's. The labor shortage this summer is real as I well know from owning a restaurant myself in Wilmington (even though we live on a farm in Hillsborough 2 1/2 hours away.... Long story.....suffice it to say that I have an affinity for good architecture whether modern or historic and I bought a historic building in Wilmington and ended up owning the biz inside the building which just happened to be a restaurant/microbrewery also:-)

Lindy likes some of their breakfast offerings but we have been disappointed after multiple visits to try to get a good dinner in the cafe or a good pizza at Coppers. We finally gave up on eating lunch or dinner there, but do enjoy some of their breakfast offerings.

8 Maritime WayLindy likes some of their breakfast offerings but we have been disappointed after multiple visits to try to get a good dinner in the cafe or a good pizza at Coppers. We finally gave up on eating lunch or dinner there, but do enjoy some of their breakfast offerings.
We enjoy dining outdoors at the Shoals Club and ordering from the bar menu. The food is good and the prices are reasonable on the bar menu. For fancier food and a fancier indoor setting at a higher price point their dining area called "Aqua" is good and dress code is still very very relaxed so no need to have to change from your very casual island attire (their dress code consists primarily of things like "no cutoff jeans" and guys cannot wear tank tops but hemmed shorts and flip flops are fine as far as I know.
Shoals Club
100 Station House WayWe enjoy dining outdoors at the Shoals Club and ordering from the bar menu. The food is good and the prices are reasonable on the bar menu. For fancier food and a fancier indoor setting at a higher price point their dining area called "Aqua" is good and dress code is still very very relaxed so no need to have to change from your very casual island attire (their dress code consists primarily of things like "no cutoff jeans" and guys cannot wear tank tops but hemmed shorts and flip flops are fine as far as I know.
Now for the bad news: We have gotten reports (and also heard a confirmation of this reservations capacity problem directly from the Memership Director at the BHI Club when we called to ask about the problem) from multiple guests that the BHI Club is overcrowded this summer and it has been very hard and in many instances impossible for guests who have purchased temporary memberships to the BHI Club to make reservations for the pool or for dinner. Part of the problem seems to be that the BHI Club favors NON guest memberships and gives NON guest members (eg "Full Members" priority in making their dining and pool reservations and then guest members only get the very few amount of reservations spots, if any, left over after the NON guest "Full" members have had a 5 day head start in making their reservations . For that reason we are recommending folks who rent our home opt for purchasing a Shoals Club temporary guest membership instead unless you need access to the BHI Club golf course or tennis courts since the BHI Club is the only club on the island to offer golf or tennis. The BHI course is a beautiful and challenging course but for the privilege of playing on it there is a $195 green fee on top of the cost of the temporary guest membership you have to purchase before being able to schedule a tee time.
