Adventures under 1 hr drive

Otter Creek State Park
22 UT-22
You will probably pass this on your way into Circleville, pending which way you are coming. It is about 20 miles from our house on a paved road, US-89. There is white water rafting, hikes, rope courses and a few other short adventures for beginners. I have done the raft trip before but the white water was a little tame for me. I like the one in Jackson Hole, especially the last rapid, it was a class 5 and you could hear it almost a mile away.

It is about 50 miles away. Drive time is about 45 minutes on paved roads. If you are a history buff or you have some Pioneer Ancestors in your blood lines, this is a good little stop to connect with how pioneers lived.

It is about 50 miles away. Drive time is about 50 minutes. Roads are winding but paved, just stay alert. I recommend taking a pontoon boat out for a day of fishing. It is beautiful up there. The water is not good for swimming, to mossy but oh did I mentioned the beauty of the lake.

It is about 10 miles away. Drive time is about 20 minutes on paved roads. If my backyard and fire pit is not relaxing for you and you want a bit of a chill to the air when the sun goes down. This would be a quick and easy place to go to. It has a running stream that goes through the campsite, sorry all I have is a hose.

Adventures with about a 1 1/2 hr. drive

From our house it is about 82 miles away. Should take about 1 hour 30 minutes drive time on UT-24 East and UT-62 North. If you have a desire for adventure, you could catch the Burr Trail, while passing through this park. Which has some awesome switchbacks and great tasting dust and end up in Boulder, Ut. where the Anasazi State park is. However, this would be a very very long day but it would be an adventure you would always remember.

It is about 96 miles away. Drive time is about 1 hr 45 minutes on paved roads. Make a day out of it by seeing all the other little sites along the way. You will be glad you did or take the scenic byway and go over the Boulder mountain, which will lead you right back to us. It will be a great road trip either way.

It is about 68 miles on paved roads with speed limits from 55 - 80. Drive time is about 1 hr 15 minutes. I was there once many years ago in the summer and I thought it was wonderful, especially the drive up there, scenic and breath taking.

It is about 73 miles away. Drive time is about 1 hr 25 minutes along well paved roads. For more adventurous drivers there is a short cut that is only available in the summer time. It is only 28 miles but it will take 53 minutes on a dirt road with some very interesting switchbacks. Most cars can drive it but some will be a lot slower though. However, the views and scenery are fantastic.

It is about 70 miles away. Drive time is about 1 hr 20 minutes. Winding and sometimes with steep inclines but man there are some great picture spots, if you can get off the road far enough not to impede traffic or fall off the edge.

Adventures with about a 2 hr drive

This land was donated to the state by my wife’s Grandfather, that is why it is called the Coomb’s site. His house, which is still there, is just down the hill from the park. He knew that this hill was sacred for some reason and would never let his children play on it. His daughter, who is my mother-in-law still lives in his house today and a granddaughter works there as well. It is about 114 miles along the scenic hyway Route 12. Drive time is about 2 hrs 15 minutes.

It is about 96 miles away. Drive time is about 1 hr 45 minutes on paved roads. This is great 3 mike hike. The scenery along the hike is amazing. Parking can get a little challenging in the summer time but not impossible. The hike is not very challenging either unless you are a desk jockey but just go slow and talk to all the people on the trail it will be worth it.

Escalante River Trailhead
It is about 62 miles away. Drive time is about 1 he 45 minutes. Winding paved roads, sometimes steep inclines, breath taking views while traveling. Awesome log style lodge and a gorgeous lake. Exceptionally large lake trout if you are a fisherman. Great hikes and campsites. The further past the lodge you go the more rugged the terrain becomes, until a 4 wheel drive is needed and sometimes two is needed, just to pull you back.

Windy but not hurricane style.

Wind blows virtually every day sometimes up to 20 miles an hr. But usually 5 to 10 and not all day. So, it might be wise to bring a light wind breaker or a hoodie.
