Sightseeing

Just a short walk from the parking lot, you'll be greeted with ancient rock exposures being shaped by the water, ice, and debris that flows through this exciting formation! If you're feeling more adventurous, just beyond the Basin are "The Cascades" a steep rock face where you can watch the water race down the valley below! Enjoy the scenery, but be very cautious, especial in the winter and spring months when water is high, and paths are very icy! Unlike The Flume Gorge, this area is free! Find out more about The Basin and Franconia Notch State Park at their website: https://www.nhstateparks.org/visit/state-parks/franconia-notch-state-park

Ready to do some grilling, cook up a storm, or make some s'mores over the fire? Price Chopper is pretty good for a small town grocery store. They have a surprisingly good selection of beer, wine, produce, and deli items. To get the good sale prices, you can ask to use the 'store card' when you check out. You can also get your own card at the customer service desk.

Maps and good guide books are an essential part of any backcountry adventure, especially in unfamiliar territory!
