Hellfire Pass (Konyu Cutting) was a particularly difficult section of the line to build. It was the largest rock cutting on the railway measuring 500 m long and 26 m deep. A cutting was chosen over a tunnel because a cutting could be constructed at all points simultaneously. Even so, the Australian, British, Dutch, other allied Prisoners of War and the Asian laborers were forced by the Japanese to work 18 hours a day.

Explore the trace of once-flourish Khmer Kingdom at one of best known Khmer-style religious structures in Thailand. Historians estimated that Prasat Mueang Singh, and its surrounding architectures on the bank of Kwai Noi River, was built between 857 and 1157 as a religious temple of Khmer Kingdom. Prasat Mueang Singh was later abandoned until the reign of King Rama I when the area of Mueang Singh had become one of border cities of Kanchanaburi. The restoration of structures hasn’t completed until 1987, though. This place far from city around 60km. Entrance fee for foreigners 200 THB.

Take a boat trip on the lake to see the flooded temples (called sunken temple), Sangkhlaburi About the story: the village and its temples were located in the valley before the dam built a few years ago swallowed up all this (current lake). Depending on the season of the year and the rain, it is possible to see the temples that emerge from the water: that's pretty impressive! We came here in August, during the rainy season and access to the temple is by boat only! In April, it is possible to walk to the temples as the depth of the lake is very low during the dry season.

Not the largest but still nice waterfalls. Lots of people and not just tourists, lots of locals having picnics. Not as large and dramatic as the Erawan Falls but still worth visiting. While here do take time to see the W.W.2. Japanese steam engine and do visit the local traders on the other side of the road and try some of their special snacks that we didn't see any where else in Thailand, dried fried banana slices, dried sweet potato slices and, best for us, the candied tamarind pods but beware of the rock hard pips.

Huay Mae khamin Waterfall is a great alternative to the well known and busy Erawan falls. The seven level falls are amongst the most stunning in Thailand and due to the off the trail location, can be enjoyed in relative peace and quiet, away from hordes of tourists. The waterfalls source is in the mountains to the east of the park, and eventually flow down to the River Kwai Yai. Other waterfall’s in the park include Pha Sawan and Pha Tat. Swimming is permitted all around the falls apart from the large drop on level four. The park also has many other attractions such as caves, hot springs, and the island studded Si Sawat Reservoir.
