The Fairy Valley Clay Castle is a magical place worth discovering, whether you're visiting with a group of friends or your little ones. The castle has a unique architecture, being built using only natural materials (such as straw, clay, rock) and is located by the Porumbacu River, in an idyllic setting, offering a beautiful perspective over the Făgăraș ridge. While you're there, you also have the possibility to enjoy some refreshments or have a quick bite to eat. All their products are fresh, natural and made without preservatives. It's definitely worth the trip! Entrance fee: 5 RON/person

Cârța is most famous for its Cistercian Monastery. The village itself is quite nice as well, of course, but the monastery is really interesting! The Cistercian Monastery of Cârța is the first Gothic monastery to be built in Romania and definitely one of a kind in the area. Most of the buildings composing the monastery no longer exist, due to decay and poor upkeep, however the choir and southern chapel, along with the grounds can still be visited. Horror movie buffs may be drawn to the monastery because part of the action in The Nun was shot here.

The Transfăgărășan route is by far the most popular route in Romania, defying nature with every hairpin turn and offering amazing views along the way. The highway crosses the Fagaras mountains and is the second highest road in Romania, reaching an altitude of 2042 m. Transfăgărășan road starts in Bascov in the south and ends in Cârtișoara in the north, at about 10 minutes drive from our chalet. It has a length of 151 km and is laced with many tourist attractions such as: worship places, engineering masterpieces, hiking trails, glacier lakes. Transfăgărășan is definitely a fun drive you'll want to check out!

City/town information

The beautiful city of Sibiu is full of tourist attractions worth your time. The modern part of Sibiu is interesting and beautiful as well, but the old city is definitely a must-see! It is laced with historical buildings, well preserved and beautifully restored only recently. So take an afternoon or two and wander the streets of Sibiu, you'll fall in love!

Fortified churches in Transylvania

There are about 160 fortified churches you might enjoy visiting in Transylvania. While some of them might be a bit too far from our location and not really worth a single day round trip, there are plenty of churches within 1 hour of driving. Most of the fortified churches have been restored and are in pretty good condition. You can find more information, as well as a map, here: https://kirchenburgen.org/en/fortified-churches/
