James' cafe is just yards from our house, down on the Putting Green. It's a very popular spot. Seating is outdoors and in winter he provides blankets and hot water bottles to keep customers cozy. He makes and sell his own ice cream on site, including sorbets, vegan ice cream and bubble waffles. They make a fine cup of coffee and other hot drinks.

Following the 1746 defeat at Culloden of Bonnie Prince Charlie, George II created the ultimate defence against further Jacobite unrest. The result, Fort George, is the mightiest artillery fortification in Britain, if not Europe. Its garrison buildings, artillery defences bristling with cannon, and superb collection of arms - including bayoneted muskets, pikes, swords and ammunition pouches - provide a fascinating insight into 18th century military life. Situated within the Fort is The Highlanders' Museum (Queen’s Own Highlanders Collection) covers three floors of Fort George’s former Lieutenant Governors’ House.

Cawdor Castle is set amid gardens in the parish of Cawdor in and was built around a 15th-century tower house, with substantial additions in later centuries. Originally a property of the Calder family, it passed to the Campbells in the 16th century. It remains in Campbell ownership, and is now home to the Dowager Countess Cawdor, stepmother of Colin Campbell, 7th Earl Cawdor. The castle is perhaps best known for its literary connection to William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth, in which the title character is made "Thane of Cawdor". However, the story is highly fictionalised.
