実際はタワーが建てばお客が来るという安易なものでなく、
別府タワーの宣伝部隊を仕立て、北陸、関東、関西と、派手でなおかつ
地道な全国行脚を行った結果、修学旅行シーズンには1日4,000食を出すなど、
年間90万人の利用客でにぎわう一大観光スポットに上りつめた。
またタワー完成時の従業員募集では、
数千人の希望者が当時の別府駅前通りまで列をつくった。
眼下に広がる街の様子こそ変化し続けるが、
360度のこの視界だけは
どこにもなく、そしてこのタワーが生きている限り手に入れられるものである。
Beppu Tower
rom the observation platform (17th floor) at 55 meters above the ground, a magnificent 360 degree panoramic view of the ocean, mountains and steam from famous hot spring resorts in Beppu City always fascinates the visitors. The tower is the greatest landmark in the city of Beppu and rises to the sky as it gently watches over the ever-changing city.

阿蘇くじゅう国立公園内にある「別府ロープウェイ」は、大分県別府市の西部にあり、鶴見岳山麓から山上までを結ぶ西日本最大規模のロープウェイです。標高1,375mの鶴見岳の山上各所からは、別府市街の町並みや別府湾などが一望できます。春には、ミヤマキリシマ、秋は紅葉、冬には一面の霧氷が見られます。九州では数少ない銀世界を一目見に、遠方からも多くの人が訪れます。通常は夕方までの営業となりますが、ナイター営業日は夜景の眺望を満喫することができます。
Beppu Ropeway
Brochures available in English, Chinese, and Korean. You can experience a walk in the air from the height of 503 meters to the top of Tsurumi mountain which is 1300 meters. On a sunny day, you can see Shikoku, and even Chugoku area of Japan. In the Spring time you will have a great view of sakura and Miyamakirishima (Rhododendron kiusianum), in the summer a 10 million dollar view at night, red leaves in autumn, and silver frost in the winter.

灶地獄擁有祖母綠、黏土沸騰湧出等地獄，來到這裡一次看足各種地獄。最受到歡迎的就是這個由工作人員帶來的煙表演。只要一吹煙灰，瞬間就會湧冒數十倍以上的煙霧，絕對值得特地前來觀看。灶地獄名物的地獄蒸布丁及溫泉皮蛋更是這裡僅有的料理，來此別錯過了。
Kamado Hell is an extremely hot onsen where you can view many different hot springs all in one place. For example, the cobalt blue spring and another where clay bubbles well up from below.Kamado Hell specialties, the hell steamed pudding and hot spring pitan are things you can only enjoy here. Please take the time to try them.

621 Kannawaかまど地獄は、コバルトブルーの地獄や粘土がポコポコ湧き出る地獄など、様々な地獄を一箇所で楽しむことができます。特に観光客に人気なのが、スタッフが行う煙のアトラクション。タバコの煙を吹きかけた瞬間に、煙が数十倍になるのは必見の価値あり。かまど地獄名物の地獄蒸しプリンや温泉ピータンは、ここでしか食べられない一品なので、ぜひ味わってみてください。

砂湯
日本一の湧出量を誇る別府温泉ですが、ちょっと変わった温泉もあります。こちらの「別府海浜砂湯」では、湯ではなく暖かい砂に入るのが特徴です。
日本人にとっても珍しい温泉なので、別府を訪れた時にはぜひ体験してみてください。砂に入って、何も考えずに海を見たり、目を瞑ったりすると、リラックスできるはずです。砂湯に入った後は、横にある一般的な温泉でゆっくりすることもできるので安心してください。

Beppu, which prides itself on having the largest quantity of hot springs in Japan, has some unique ones too. For example at Beppu Kaihin Sand Bath, you can take a sand bath rather than a hot water bath.
This is an unusual hot spring even for the Japanese, and a must for anyone visiting Beppu. You’re bound to feel relaxed as the warm sand covers you up and you gaze out at the ocean, or even close your eyes and rest. After being in the sand bath, you can also head into a regular hot spring.
