St. Stephen's Basilica is a Roman Catholic basilica in Budapest, Hungary. It is named in honour of Stephen, the first King of Hungary, whose right hand is housed in the reliquary. It was the sixth largest church building in Hungary before 1920. The site of today's basilica was a theater in the 18th century. This theater, named Hetz-Theater, was a place where animal fights were hosted. One of the wealthy citizens (János Zitterbarth) of the newly formed district built a temporary church there. In the late 1810s, about a thousand people formed the Lipótváros Parish. Then they began the fundraising and the believers started to make plans for the future church.[1] The church is named after Saint Stephen I of Hungary, the first King of Hungary (c. 975–1038), whose incorruptible right hand is housed in the reliquary. This is the most important church building in Hungary, one of the most significant tourist attractions and the third highest church in Hungary. Equal with the Hungarian Parliament Building, it is one of the two tallest buildings in Budapest at 96 metres (315 ft) - this equation symbolises that worldly and spiritual thinking have the same importance. Regulations prohibited for a long period the construction of any building taller than 96 metres (315 ft) in Budapest.[2] [3] [4] It has a width of 55 metres (180 ft), and length of 87.4 metres (287 ft). It was completed in 1905 after 54 years of construction, according to the plans of Miklós Ybl, and was completed by József Kauser. Much of this delay can be attributed to the collapse of the dome in 1868 which required complete demolition of the completed works and rebuilding from the ground up

An ideal place for romantic, candle-light dinner on an island on the City Park lake, located on the Városligeti pond. Restaurant Robinson is one of the most romantic places in Budapest where you can enjoy international and Hungarian dishes, with its own island on the City Park-lake near by the Heroes’ Square.

My TOP Favourite restaurant is Grandma’s home style Hungarian kitchen, using the best ingredients, with love and care. They only carry Hungarian wines with a true caracter and like to select those special volumes that are reserved for the true wine lovers. Pest-Buda is one of the oldest restaurants of Hungary. The building was originally built as an inn and has been used as such until 1800. It has an original baroque roof structure and the ground floor has been a tavern or restaurant for several centuries. Staff friendly and extremely attentive. The restaurant is very small so you would need to book in advance.

The famous old Market Hall in the Hold utca was recently totally renovated, and due to a brilliant idea a new restaurant street was opened and started. It is being a unique and cool but still home-style food, where really good homemade sausages, and hungarian specialities can be eaten, from execellent Chefs in street food style... The SÉF utcája (SÉF’s street ) is, all in all an authentic environment is carried out on the 1st floor of the market hall. There are really good points were you can really eat good and fast, but sometime need to wait for free tables to sit down.

Aszú étterem, known as Aszú restaurant, is closely related to the wine region of Tokaj, and that is where it has received its name from. It is a gourmet restaurant in the heart of Budapest, very close to the St. Stephans Basilica and other attractions in Budapest. At the Aszú restaurant in Budapest you will get served food that not only tastes good, it also looks good. The chefs do a brilliant job preparing the meals, and you can feel it in your mouth as you taste the bites that this is quality. The prices are also thereafter, so the prices of a main course in Aszu is between 3.000-5.000 HUF in general. The price for a glass of wine is between 1.000-2.000 HUF normally. The restaurant has quite famous Hungarian dishes on the menu, such as Goulash soup and Paprika chicken, so if you want Hungarian food at its best, this could be a good option.

The Great Market Hall or Central Market Hall (Hungarian "Nagyvásárcsarnok") is the largest and oldest indoor market in Budapest, Hungary. Most of the stalls on the ground floor offer produce, meats, pastries, candies, spices, and spirits such as paprika, tokaji, Túró Rudi, and caviar. The second floor has mainly eateries and souvenirs. The lángos stand, which Rick Steves considers to be the best at the market, is located on this floor, serving the deep-fried snack lángos. The basement contains butcher shops, fish market, and pickles. Not only do they have traditional cucumber pickles, but they also offer pickled cauliflower, cabbage, beets, tomatoes, and garlic. The market is closed on Sunday, opens at 6am on other days, and closes at 5pm Monday, 6pm Tue-Fri and 3pm Saturday.[3]
