Todd is a nearby river town (15-20 minutes by car) that is a great place to go for kayaking, tubing, or fishing. It is beautiful natural area that is also home to Elk Knob State Park, which has miles of hiking trails.
A beautiful rural drive, walk, or bike trip is Railroad Grade Rd, that runs along the New River. Stop in at Todd Island Park for a picnic.

This delightful garden is small and walkable near downtown Blowing Rock. I always take a few minutes to stroll through here when visiting. It is also near one of my favorite restaurants, Bistro Roca.

Take your time and stop at view points, waysides, and breathe in deep the scenery. Make sure you cross the viaduct bridge, it's an engineering marvel with breathtaking scenery. But be careful, it's a National Park, so speeding is enforced and can result in a hefty fine!
