Slade is the town that splits the Northern and Southern parts of the Gorge. Grab a map from the Visitor Center and stop by the shops in town to find a little urban adventure along Route 11.

Whether you like coke, beer, or the local favorite Ale-8, you can find it at Beer King. Plus, it's on the way to my place!

This is the main stop for fuel and a surprising local favorite. You can get Ale-8 on draft and fill your tank for the weekend, what a deal!

If you can't wait to get home for dinner after your hike in the Daniel Boone National Forest, stop by here for an appetizer and a drink along the way. Play a round of darts while you enjoy some cheesy fries. If you're here during the week there is trivia on Tuesday!

Muir Valley is a one-of-a-kind climbing, hiking, and nature viewing area. Don't let the $10 parking fee detour you from this gem of the Red. There are plenty of mason-built outhouses on the property and the climbing routes are marked for you. Don't let the $10 parking fee detour you from this gem of the Red.

The Red is home to the second-most natural arches in the U.S. (after Utah). Choose a hike up to the top of the natural bridge and enjoy the view. The natural bridge has more visitors than any place because of its beauty and accessibility, I recommend going early in the morning to beat the crowds and catch the sunrise :)

This is NOT A TUNNEL! It's your gateway into the adventures that await you in the Northern Gorge. Make sure to honk your horn and turn on your lights before going through Nada Tunnel :)

Muir Valley is one of my favorite areas to rock climb in the Red. It boasts spectacular views, great hiking, stunning cliffs, plants, trees, and lots of animals! A bonus of visiting this place is that I have an annual parking pass, so you don't have to pay the $10 parking fee :) Enjoy!

Grab groceries along the way if you want to cook

There is a Kroger at the Stanton exit off Route 11, about 10 miles before Slade. Make sure to stop and grab groceries for your stay if you plan to cook.
交通アクセス

Driving around the Red

When you are driving around the Red it is best to go slow and watch for cars coming around the sharp turns (there are many of them). Take your time and don't forget to enjoy the breathtaking views that are always around you.
必要な持ち物

Rain Gear

Bring a light rain jacket with you and throw it in your pack. You won't notice the weight and will be thankful you aren't suffering like all the tourists who swore the weather app said it wouldn't rain.
必要な持ち物

Bring shoes to hike in!

Bring a sturdy pair of hiking boots or hiking sandals! There are trails everywhere throughout the Red you can adventure on, which makes solid footwear a must.
風習と文化

Bring some cash

Most places around the Red accept credit cards now, but some still work on a cash basis or charge a small fee for using a credit card. One of my favorite climbing areas charges a $10 cash parking fee.
