Neighbourhoods

Kincraig is a highland village set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the heart of the Scottish Highlands in the Cairngorm national park. Here in this areas surroundings you will find Scotland’s most treasured landscapes and rare wildlife. Ancient forests, hidden lochs and heather clad moorlands which run across the river Spey. The snow capped Cairngorm mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to Kincraig’s unique setting. Kincraig is a true highland village, with a village pub, hall and once post office/general store is now an amazing Café art gallery. There is a great local community spirit in the village with a friendly atmosphere. Some of the locals you will see are red squirrels, golden eagles, otters and osprey which is an ideal for photographers and nature lovers. With loch Insh at the heart of Kincraig there are plenty of activities all year round, water sports, hiking, gliding, golfing, orienteering, and limitless walks and cycling tracks. Not forgetting the winter sports of skiing, boarding and sledging fun (a family favourite). The pub Suie bar at the Suidhe Lodge is a short walk from the house where you can find an open fire, friendly faces, juke box and games to play. If you’re lucky the local band may be in for their weekly practice! The Café Gallery The Old Post office café gallery is the former Post office and general store, the café does some amazing food and cakes while showcasing and selling local art. Italian owned they provide a wonderful selection of drinks, food and cakes. Well worth a visit, they serve hot, cold and alcoholic drinks. The working sheepdogs Leault Farm showcases their working sheepdogs and provide a daily demonstration by Neil Ross. Each dog has its own set of commands to follow. Meet the collie pups, see the orphan lambs and take part in shearing sheep. Loch Insh The river Spey runs into the beautiful Loch Insh, surrounded by beautiful marshlands and a church on the hillside. You can walk many ways around the riverside and loch. Avid bird lovers are advised to take binoculars to view the island in the loch, where ospreys have been known to frequent. There is an outdoor Centre located at the Insh side of the loch. An Suidhe To the front of the house there is a Munro, over or under the A9, you can climb and place a stone on the kern at the top, a tradition carried out by the children of the family.

The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer found in the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland. These tame and friendly animals are a joy to all who come and see them. Reindeer are not just for Christmas! The centre does not take bookings and you need to arrive early in high season periods. It opens at 10am, we recommend arriving as early as 8-9am to get ahead of the queues. In winter months be sure to take a hot drink and warm shoes and clothes are essential. A café is available near to the centre, serving hot and cold drinks and food. https://www.cairngormreindeer.co.uk/ 01479 861228

The Cairngorm Mountain and ski area A visit to the ski area is a must in the summer and winter months, even if you are not a skier or boarded the mountain ski base area is worth a visit. On a good clear day you have amazing views of the Glenmore Forrest and loch Morlich. There are a number of walkways from the base. Ranger guided walks are available contact the ranger booking service on 01479 861327, this is a chargeable service. The base has a café, education centre, toilets and shop. Unfortunately the funicular railway is out of order pending investment for repairs. During winter seasons (November to March) the ski area has an artificial snow machine at the base. Tubing is available all year round. https://www.cairngormmountain.co.uk/

The Frank Bruce Sculpture Trail Along Insh woods walkway which runs along the River Feshie you will find The Frank Bruce Sculpture Trail in Feshiebridge. Bruce was a sculptor from Aviemore and and his trail is an extraordinary series based on Scottish culture, and our relationship with others. You may notice the sculptures starting to decay, this was his intent, that some would stand the test of time where others would not. http://www.frank-bruce.org.uk/
