We thoroughly recommend Plantkind Falafel as a wholesome, filling option for lunchtimes. For those who could do without the hassle of dining in, this original street food takeaway is the place to go! Tasty boxes/wraps of homemade falafel, hummus, quinoa, pickled carrots and various other salads, topped with three sauces, this vegan gem is sure to delight.

Recommended by Emma for her number 1 choice in Shrewsbury. A previous guest to Helen's 🏠 said it was excellent. A short walk from the house over the Welsh Bridge and then can be found just off Barker Street.

For daytime dining a wonderful selection of eateries such as Moli tea house, The Birds Nest (with twig roof), House of Yum, Indian Street food, Saint Pierre seafood bar and Tom's Table.
An attractive vegetarian restaurant in a historical building. Wonderful views along High Street. Many savoury dishes such as spinach moussaka, herby jacket potatoes and a large selection of salads. The lemon cheesecake tart is gorgeous. In fact all of the desserts are gorgeous. Known also for wonderful breakfasts at a reasonable price. Daytime opening hours only.

We went on the guided prison tour with former Shrewsbury prison officer Graham. We really, really enjoyed it. To have a tour from prison officers who actually worked in the prison when it was open was very special. I was amazed to hear about all the goings on! When the tour had ended we went for another look around. Wrap up warm as it’s cold in there.

Shrewsbury Castle is a red sandstone castle. It stands on a hill in the neck of the meander of the River Severn on which the town originally developed. The castle, directly above Shrewsbury Railway station, is a grade 1 listed building.

The Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings is a newly restored industrial mill and former Maltings that has been transformed and rejuvenated with a new visitor experience, cafe and shop. Situated just outside Shrewsbury Town Centre, the internationally important Flaxmill Maltings site reflects a time when Shropshire led the way in engineering. The site is home to eight special buildings each with a unique story to tell, including the 1797 Main Mill which is the grandparent of skyscrapers due to its iron frame construction.

St Mary’s Church is now the only complete medieval church in Shrewsbury. It dates from Saxon times and has beautiful additions from the twelfth century onwards. There are panels in glorious colour including the world famous fourteenth century Jesse window. No other church in the country has a collection equal to it. There is a small cafe inside the church with outside seating in pleasant weather.
