The Point Loma Peninsula
The Point Loma Peninsula is a dynamic community with a variety of lifestyles. The coastline at Ocean Beach and Sunset Cliffs come with gorgeous views and amazing surf spots. On the other side of the point, the bay communities of La Playa and Shelter Island feature quieter beaches with smooth waters and views of sailboats and the downtown skyline.
In the center of it all, Liberty Station is a wonderful place to enjoy big open parks or a great restaurant. It features the Lot movie theater and Liberty Market, the latter a variety of micro restaurants all bundled under one roof. Across the street Stone Brewery has an amazing outdoor restaurant and bar with a beautiful koi pond as well as indoor dining.
Decorated with gorgeous limestone cliffs and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, Sunset Cliffs is one of the highlights of Point Loma. This Neighborhood is home to one of the arguably best sunset viewing spots in San Diego. For a way to best enjoy this, you can try to find the staircase on Ladera Street leading down to a lesser known beach; No Surf. Exploring these cliffs is the perfect way to get that "locals only" experience.

Sunset Cliffs
Decorated with gorgeous limestone cliffs and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, Sunset Cliffs is one of the highlights of Point Loma. This Neighborhood is home to one of the arguably best sunset viewing spots in San Diego. For a way to best enjoy this, you can try to find the staircase on Ladera Street leading down to a lesser known beach; No Surf. Exploring these cliffs is the perfect way to get that "locals only" experience.
The longest beach with easy access in Point Loma can be found here. It is anywhere from Niagara Street/Newport Avenue all the way up to dog beach by the jetty. The Ocean Beach Pier has a terrific cafe to watch the surfers from and is highly recommended for a long walk. It has a reputation as being one of California's longest piers. There are a variety of surf shops on Newport Avenue. Our favorite is Southcoast Surf Shop and Wahine's for the ladies. A variety of places also offer lessons. I'd also recommend Surf Divas for ladies. Wednesday nights are busy in Ocean Beach as the local farmer's market takes place with plenty of street food, produce and entertainment. I like that there are lots of GF options with bakeries as well at the street market! You will find plenty of restaurants in the area. Dress is VERY casual. There are several "satellite" micro-breweries with craft beer that are wonderful. Don't miss Kilowatt and Azucar. The line for the famous Hodad's (burgers) that was featured on Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives, has long lines so go at odd times and not 6:30 pm.

You will find quiet beaches that face the bay to sit and enjoy a picnic while watching the sailboats at Kellogg Beach or take a stroll along one of the oldest walking trails in California, the Bessemer Trail. Several private gyms are in the area, our favorite is Point Pilates with Samantha. Dine at favorites like Old Venice or Point Loma Seafoods, you can even grab a TKO taco at Point Loma Fish Shop then walk across the street to enjoy a night of sports or karaoke at Harbor Town Pub.
