I usually get the Fried Chicken and one of their local beers. Jayme really likes their vegetarian dish and a glass of their nice wine selection. This is a very warm/friendly place, reasonably priced, and they do a good job with the food. Mmmm.

Wow, this place is good...especially if you like oysters. It's the kinda place where you can tell them you like briny ones, and they'll bring your a selection of six different varieties of briny oysters. It's expensive, and it's about as far as we walk for food, but it's worth every bit of the effort. It's a fun walk if you go via Grandview, to Stanton, through Kite Hill Park and onto 19th St.

A lot of people think this is the best brunch in the city (I like Universal Cafe more). Zazie is packed for brunch, so go before they open or be prepared to wait (no reservations). I like it for dinner, but Jayme thinks I'm crazy. It's a really nice nature walk to get there with some stunning panorama views of the city (a couple kinda strenuous miles) if you walk up to twin peaks, then onto the trail past the reservoir and around Sutro Tower, onto Nike Trail --> West Ridge Trail --> Historic Trail, to Stanyan Street.

This is a chain...but it's a LOT better than any La Boulangerie outside of the city. If you are into soy milk lattes, then get a large latte bowl here. It isn't going to blow you away, but it's a nice, low key, $14 lunch plate. I like their open face tuna tartar. They do it simple, and reasonably priced. Order at the counter, and work on your laptop while you wait.

My favorite brunch in the city, and it doesn't seem to be that widely known. They make it so simple, with fantastic ingredients. Everything is really good....even just the scrambled eggs. I didn't know scrambled eggs could be that good. The lattes aren't that good...but I forgive them. No reservations. Outdoor seating. The wait usually isn't too bad, and the parking usually isn't too bad. It tends to be really loud inside...we always eat outside. Pick a sunny morning. It's usually sunnier, and warmer in that part of town.

This family owned authentic Sardinian restaurant does everything with so much care. The consistency of the pasta is unlike anywhere I've been in the city (in a good way). You won't forget the Squid Ink Pasta, the Sardine appetizer, or the custom Gelato flavors. You need reservations well in advance. It's kinda formal, but formal in SF is casual in New York.

Spaghetti. Yup, they have it with a couple giant meatballs. It may not sound good, but it is. ...and it's reasonably priced. It's the kind of place that decorates with laundry hanging from clothespins....and I think they require their staff to have at least half of their body covered in tattoos. They also might hire a DJ for the dinner hour; two turn tables and a microphone.

Hiking here makes you feel like you're not in the city anymore. You have a decent chance of seeing a coyote, or an owl...and if you're really lucky (or unlucky depending on things) you might even see a mountain lion. This hike is not spectacular, but it does have pretty rock outcroppings, nice big trees, a stream in a canyon, and you can walk there pretty easily from our place...though the walk to get there is not so great. The entrance at the end of Amethyst Way is quite a bit closer than where the icon appears on the map. If you go at the right time, and want a longer walk, you can even swing by the Bird and Becket Book Store for a really great free (donation) jazz show.

This park is huge, and there is so much to do there. You can spend an afternoon in the gardens, or walk through the Japanese tea garden, or one of the Museums, or go Frisbee golfing, or go golfing golfing, or barbecue in the sunny speedway meadows (May or September if you like the sun), or (briefly) hike through the forest, paddle boat around an island mountain, checkout the giant historic windmills by the beach, or the equestrian center by the historic racing track, or or walk around the rock garden, be part of the drum circle, or go to the rollerskating dance party, or watch buffalo in the buffalo meadow. It may sound like I started making stuff up at the end. That's San Francisco...

If you want to feel like you found a deserted beach, drive here walk to the beach and head south. You can walk for miles down the beach, sheltered from the city by the cliffs. The are a lot of dune trails to explore too. Much of this open space is an off leash dog park, so don't go there if you don't want to meet dogs.... a lot of dogs. There is also a place to rent horses for a ride through the dunes and along the beach. There's a lot of open space, so the horse riders can avoid the dogs....sort of.
