Offerta gastronomica

in my opinion, one of the best places in Mestre and Venice! The food is good and not that expensive. You can drink one of the finest Spritz here! And you must try the cicchetti: polpette di carne and mozzarella in carrozza (which comes in different versions). If you want to have dinner or lunch, it’s highly recommended to reserve a table!

completely restructured by the architect Zordan, it is the heart of the city with bars, hotels, cinemas and theatres. It was once called Piazza Grande or Maggiore, when it was still the heart of the Mestre market, held twice a week. The market is still a twice-weekly event, only now in another location. In 1900, it was named in memory of King Umberto I of Savoy, who was assassinated in that year in Monza. After the Second World War and the exile of the Savoys, it was rededicated to the memory of freedom fighter, Erminio Ferretto, slain by the Fascists in 1944. During the excavation, many relics were unearthed relating to the works for creating the 19th-century sewer system, road strata in cobble stone from a more recent period and even sections of city walls from the medieval times. The square was then covered back over with sheets and slabs of basalt and zovonite; in the middle of the square is a large fountain, at the centre of which was a gilded bronze statue by Alberto Viani (1906 - 1989).

M9 belongs to a new generation of museums. For the very first time, a museum narrates the compelling history of the 20th century. A century that saw great and small changes: from evolutions in everyday life to momentous social, economic, environmental and cultural changes. State-of-the-art technologies and immersive displays help visitors learn about the past, understand the present and imagine the future. Still, if you’re not such a museumgoer or, simply, you’re not in the mood, I recommend you visit the courtyard, that is suggestive and, most of all, free entry!
