My house is very close to Ferndale, which has a cute downtown with great restaurants and a few shops.
My house is also close to Royal Oak, which has lots of shops and restaurants. The downtown area is bigger than Ferndale and good for a day of walking around shopping, seeing a movie, grabbing brunch, etc.
