This is a great way to soak in the scenery as you board the train at Freshwater station where the locomotive pulls its heavy load of train carriages and rattles past beautiful rainforest covering the hillside, slipping by steep cuttings and chugging through hand blasted tunnels to reach your final destination of Kuranda. You can then walk the lovely streets of Kuranda village experiencing all it has to offer before either hopping back on the train for its return journey or hopping on the Kuranda sky rail and arriving at Smithfield.

The tablelands, so named because it is the geographical name for the general flat arable land atop the great dividing range that forms the backdrop to Cairns. The tableland comprises townships by the name Kuranda, Mareeba, Tolga, Atherton, Malanda, Milla Milla and Lake Tinaroo. It is home to great coffee growers, fruit growers such as pawpaw, mango and avocados and holds such wonders as the curtain fig, lake Eacham and Lake Barrine and it’s amazing tea house and walking track where you can see Kauri pines that are many hundreds of years old. You can taste great chocolate, yogurt, cheeses and other dairy delights as well as wines and great cottage industry produce. There is far more than one hat I have mentioned so investigate further for all the sites and experiences of the tablelands.

This is a epic view to add to your instagram page and just wait until you start receiving all those “likes” as people viewing your Instagram post view your post with unbelievable jealousy. It does include a 2 hour walk along the “Old Cairns Track” across the Gillies Range and then a 2 hour walk back. Not for the faint hearted. Best seen in the wet season as you’ll be assured that the falls are flowing. Once at the Falls you’ll be treated to amazing views out across the “World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics Rainforest”. Remember to take a backpack or something to carry water and food for snacking.
