Oyster card
Get an Oyster card:top it up with cash to allow easy travelling on Underground and buses. Plenty of local shops can issue these. Buses don't take cash.

Getting to West End (shopping etc)
Travel after 0930 and its cheaper. Quickest route to West End is overground to Vauxhall (13 minutes),then get off and go downstairs to Underground and travel north to Green Park (Buckingham Place,Piccadilly etc) or next stop,Oxford Street (including Regent St).
