A must see and it's open 24/7 so you can visit anytime. Ruby's Diner is at the end of the pier and there is a bait shop where you can buy fishing tackles and even rent fishing poles. No license is required for fishing from the pier and the fishing is pretty good most of the time.

A must see and it's open 24/7 so you can visit anytime. Ruby's Diner is at the end of the pier and there is a bait shop where you can buy fishing tackles and even rent fishing poles. No license is required for fishing from the pier and the fishing is pretty good most of the time.
Hours of fun for the little ones (or even the big ones)! Only a couple of exits down the freeway.

On the Northern tip of Oceanside beach, the harbor has restaurants, boat launch, pier, fishing & whale watching tours. You'll find about two miles of sidewalk to stroll, which will take you around the entire Harbor. You can rent kayaks and SUPs there also. The beach has shaded picnic area with bbq grills.

American Diner at the end of the Oceanside Pier. Getting there is half the fun and the view is never bad.
Sadly Ruby was closed on 3/1/2021. It's a great space so I'm sure something else will open in its place. Stay tune!

And since they are from Germany you can find some German & European items to indulge on the cheap. I hit this store first to stock up my fridge whenever I'm in town.

Grunion run - You have to witness it to believe it!
Witness nature wonder that only can be seen here! Watch grunions beaching themselves to lay eggs in the sand late in Summer night is an experience of a life time if you're lucky to be at the right place at the right time. Public transportation from SD Airport or LA area
If you need transportation from the airport, the Oceanside transit hub is about 15 minutes easy walk from the house. You can take the light rail line called the Coaster to and from SD airport to Oceanside for about $7. Everything is within walking distance from the house so you can visit without having a car rental if you wish.
