The underground line U5 takes you directly to Alexanderplatz, which is your transit station to Kreuzberg (Kottbusser Tor), Neukölln (Hermannplatz), Prenzlauerberg (Weinmeisterstrasse, Rosenthalerplatz) and much more places.
From here there is direct connection to Alexanderplatz, Central Railway Station (Hauptbahnhof), Friedrichstrasse, Warschauerstrasse or Ostkreuz (if you're going to Friedrichshain), or the cities of Potsdam and Spandau.
The station is in a 6'-7' walking distance. Just take any train in direction east (S5 Spandau, S7 Potsdam), or the S75 Ostbahnhof if you're going to Friedrichshain.
