If you are wanting a grungy feeling bar with live music, check out Les Bon Temps. Definitely a neighborhood bar, this dark and musky bar has a neat feeling to it, with cheap beer. Trivia: find the “Lee Harvey Oswald sat here” plaque. He lived just down the street on Magazine St. and this was his watering hole.

Cocktails? Don’t call the guys and gals working there bartenders; call them mixologists. Its probably a more accurate description, anyways. Tell them your mood and your palate, and they will whip you up a special cocktail. In the evenings, sometimes they can require long pants...lame.

Delachaise is a good wine bar with a kitchen in the back serving up a great menu (shrimp clemenceau; french fries cooked in duck fat). The wine selection is very solid. The only downside is the narrowness of the place and the angry bald server, but if a nice evening, try to catch a table outside along St. Charles.

A popular wine bar with a Mad Men feeling, this place is great. Head there for a night out in a beautifully restored shotgun home. And, if you need a snack, get the fries with Aioli sauce. Some of the best fries in the city.

If there is one thing New Orleans seriously lacks, its outdoor bar seating. One of the few places with a great outdoor patio is the Bulldog. WIth over a 100 beers on tap, this place is where its at for ale on a nice day (or night). Make sure to take a picture of the beer tap fountain.

WIth over a 100 beers on tap, this place is where its at for ale on a nice day (or night). Make sure to take a picture of the beer tap fountain.
