A wonderful 15 minute excursion from Geraldine. Have a coffee and a bite at the delightful Green Man Cafe (or dinner) and take a walk along the Giant Tree walk (15 - 20 minute walk) where you'll see beautiful Totara trees dating back 1000 years.

This is a pristine lake in the middle of some wonderful alpine scenery. Soak in the hot pools or take a drive up Mt John (University of Canterbury observatory) - it's well worth it!

A wonderful day trip from Geraldine - Lake Clearwater lies in the Ashburton Basin (O tu Wharekai). Mostly a gravel road to get there but you'll see some stunning NZ scenery and, depending on the time of year, not too many people!

A half hour drive from Geraldine, you can see little blue penguins coming in to nest at dusk (seasonal), or take a stroll along the beach, enjoy the play ground and other facilities Caroline Bay has to offer
