Excellent French-Vietnamese food, a caring and knowledgeable staff (the bartenders take their craft very seriously!), and a quiet patio in back with greenery and water features. One of my favorites is the Pineapple Calamari (Muc Xao Khom).

They're cooking up the best in New Orleans style Cajun and Creole cuisine! You can tell owner's Danny and Annie Beck love what they do not only by the delicious food, but by the way it infects their wonderful staff.

Sound like a local and say "Hollywood Beach". Less crowded, always well kept; newer facilities. Easily meet new people; a haven for GLBT and their families. See both Big Willy and the Bahá'í Temple on a clear day.

A National Historic Landmark, it is sometimes known as "Lincoln Park Lily Pool". It is a wonderful example of Prairie School Landscape Architecture. If you have any interest in parks, landscapes, beauty, etc. this is really a must see! I agree with its website: "Only bird songs and the sound of a gentle waterfall break the restful silence. Follow the stone walk encircling the lily pool and discover a pavilion, council ring, and diverse native plantings. This is the vision of landscape architect Alfred Caldwell: a hidden garden for the people of Chicago designed to resemble a river meandering through a great Midwestern prairie."
It is remarkably beautiful in a gentle rain. I'll give you an umbrella!

They often host special installations (I saw a Chihuly glass installation there with Aunt Joann!) and now through Sept 22 see "solarise: a sea of all colors" an art installation of a series of light and sculptural environments created by Luftwerk - Chicago artists Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero. Outside you'll find >> the City Garden which "takes urban greening as its guiding principle, and it gives expression to that principle at multiple levels, from its structure to its materials and plantings. It also provides an important link in an ever-growing lacework of boulevards, gardens, and open spaces scattered beyond its borders." >> the Demonstration Garden "a beautiful city-lot-sized working garden, to learn about community and organic gardening in Chicago." >> the Monet Garden, "an adaptation of impressionist painter Claude Monet’s well known garden at Giverney, France." >> and the Play & Grow Garden for families with children ages 0-8. Kids can build, imagine, and challenge themselves with pebbles; make mud pies; walk the stump obstacle course; or make music on a wooden xylophone!

The Chicago Park District and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre team-up and bring "Shakespeare's Greatest Hits" to Loyola Park (for free!) on Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25 at 6:30 PM. The actors mash-up The Bard's best scenes and create an exciting evening filled with a pop-culture sound track, great sets and costumes and a bit of audience participation. You should see the smiles one kids' faces. Get your spot early, 'cause the secrete has been out on this surprise event for a while.
Not in town on those dates, no worries. Check out either the District's or the Theatre's web site for 17 other parks hosting the ensemble throughout the summer.

The station is at the center of the "Edgewater Arts Festival", September 24-25, 2016 , 11am-6pm. One of my favorite festivals showcasing mostly local artists.

The West Argyle Street Historic District (National Register of Historic Places) is often called Chicago's "new Chinatown" but I think that sells it short. I've found Vietnamese, Laotian, Cambodian, Japanese, AND Chinese influences there. (I used the Hip-Sing Association for an address.).
There are restaurants, grocery stores, and shops you wont find anywhere else. The people are really friendly and always happy to help translate or explain things to me.
Tank Noodle and Ba Le Sandwich are sure bets, but I've been happy at every place I've tried.
It is an easy walk or CTA trip from my home.
