Playa del Carmen top guide.

Natural world.

This is my list of must visit places nearby, nature at it's best. Some are free but mostly there's an entrance fee for tourists.
Listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, it is exclusive and just 10 minutes drive from Playa del Carmen. Pristine, full of palm trees, beach club, restaurant, horseback riding available and the sea is crystal clear and calm. The entrance fee is typically around $250 pesos ($13 dls) a day.

One of my favorite beaches ever, it is completely virgin except for bathroom facilities and a little trail to the little cenote that is a 2 minutes walk away. Here you can enjoy the beautiful beach, snorkel if the tide allows it and walk through the amazing palm trees to freshen up in the cenote.

The most popular archeological site in Quintana Roo, the cuspid of Mayan civilization with an astonishing view to one of the most unique beaches in Tulum. The site is amazing for an early visit, you can walk around in guided visits or alone. You'll get to know Mayan culture and enjoy the nature and ruins from hundreds of years ago.

1 hour drive from Tulum, this amazing place has so many things to offer. The ruins are beautiful and one of the few you can still climb, the view from the jungle surrounding is breathtaking. A few minutes drive there's a trail of Cenotes with 3 of the most beautiful underground formations you'll ever see. The food is amazing, the prices are cheap and you won't regret knowing this beautiful town.

Sian Ka'an means where heaven meets earth, and it isn't an understatement. The natural reserve is protected by law since it is one of the most varied and meaningful places regarding animal species, vegetation and pristine beaches and lagoons. The drive is 2 to 3 hours from Playa del Carmen, the road is full of amazing places to stop and discover virgin beaches until you get to the main town Punta Allen. There you can get fresh lobster for incredible prices, a guided tour through the biosphere including dolphin watching, turtles, snorkeling, bird watching and an amazing natural pool in the middle of the sea. It is definitely one of the most spectacular experiences ever and a sustainable one.

The most complex underwater cave system on México and the planet is just 40 minutes away from Playa del Carmen. Inside the park you can find 5 different Cenotes, all part of the Dos Ojos System. It is truly one of a kind experience and worth the price. Theres a restaurant, hammocks, guided tours or solo exploring. You can visit all the cenotes or just one, but they are all worth it and you'll be snorkeling for hours.

Food & Drinks

My food and drinks recommendation, mostly it's Mexican kitchen for you to explore and enjoy. There's also some international and french spots which are worth the visit.
One of the yummiest restaurants in Playa with very accesible prices. Mexican contemporary food with a taste of home, local ingredients, amazing varieties of Mezcal and mixology. It is right on the corner of 5th avenue for you to take a little walk after or before your meal. They have a menu of the day with very accesible price and 3 courses.

If you're looking for seafood, this is the hottest place in town. Spicy, tostadas, tacos, ceviche, aguachile, fried fish, everything. Accesible prices, good drinks, very good flavor, good attention and very casual. It is the place to have traditional tostadas from Mazatlan and enjoy really fresh seafood.

Probably my favorite in Playa del Carmen. The restaurant is beautiful, open kitchen and spaces and the attention is as spectacular as the dishes. The cooking is artisanal, with a "pib" (underground oven), fresh flavors from Yucatan and sustainably obtained. The chef Pedro Abascal has a lot of experience with local ingredients and pairings, as well as a surprising mixology and wine menu. Every time I've dined there, I love everything we order. Definitely a must.

Great breakfasts and packages, excellent coffee, bakery and desserts. The decoration is very hip and all food is organic. One of the few places with a recycling station and sustainability as a motto. On Wednesdays they have open mic and a different menu of the day from Monday to Friday. Open all day, every day except Sunday, they close at 3pm.

Food with heart. If you love bowls and hummus, this is it. Beautiful location, beautiful presentation and all organic food. I love the menu and the love they put into it. There's also a pool if you feel the Caribbean heat.

One of the best restaurants in Tulum. Mexican cuisine with a new twist that will blow your mind. Maybe kids won't love the menu, but adults with a culinary knowledge will be impressed. Also one of the best mixology and bartenders in town. The restaurant is beautiful and so is their food. RSVP only.

More than 30 years old, this seafood place is as traditional as it gets. Fresh seafood fished early in the morning by their fishermen, they cook it traditionally with lots of flavor. Best ceviche and fried fish. Only takes cash.
