Within walking distance, BJ's pasta salads, sandwiches and soups are all home made. The salad bar is abundant and, together with a glass of wine, enjoyed on the patio, makes for a great way to enjoy lunch. Be sure to have a slice of their delicious rhubarb pie! Or, stop by for coffee and a homemade caramel roll for breakfast.

Buffalo Books is another spot that is within two blocks of the house, but might be missed if you don't know to look. The locals get their coffee here, both the brewed versions and the beans for home use. They know their stuff, and would love to talk coffee AND books with you. :D

Drinks & Nightlife

Hayes has a definite Irish vibe, with delicious fresh beer. Musicians often play, and there also might be a food truck outside. Hayes is within 3 blocks of the cottage. Walk there for something on tap, and be sure to bring the growler we have for guests to use. Get a fill up without the cost of a deposit for the glass jug.

Norms has Detroit style pizza, as well as steaks, burgers and sandwiches. Live music is a weekend feature. You'll have to drive to get there, but it is less than 10 minutes away. It can be quite busy and quite noisy, so know this ahead of time.

There are several wineries in the area, but Buffalo Rock Winery is the only one in Buffalo. Double check their hours before driving out (although the drive is only about 10 minutes!). Woodland Hill winery is in Delano, also close. J. Carver Distillery is in Waconia, which is about 40 minutes south, in case your interests run a little darker. You can also pick up a bottle of their whiskey at the liquor store, if you want the experience without the drive.

Parks & Nature

Start your visit by walking the many trails we have in and around Buffalo, starting with the Lakeshore Walk that intersects the driveway. Walk to Sturges Park to play the instruments. Check for evening activities at the park, or stop at the Lakeshore Pavillion to rent a boat and explore the lake. Lake Pulaski is also worth exploring. It is less than 10 minutes by car, and boat rentals are also available there. A little further away, perhaps a twenty minute drive, Lake Maria State Park is truly gorgeous. Yep, there's another lake with rentals, and trails through the woods. Go at dusk or dawn for cool breezes.

Second Hand Rose was one of the very first shops to adopt the "occasional sale" approach to selling. Soon, the entire town got on board. Now, Buffalo is known for their occasional shops. They are open the weekend of the first Thursday-Sunday of the Month. The town bustles on these weekends, and the energy is definitely more fun when you don't have to worry about a car because you can walk to most of the shops. There are several shops on the edge of town, and a number that are also open on other days during the month, so get out and explore. The Buffalo Nickel is definitely one worth the short drive across town if you are looking for antiques.

Entertainment & Activities

Huikkos has bowling, mini golf and an arcade. They occasionally also have comedy nights, which can be fun, so look them up. There are two golf courses in town, the 18 hole Wild Marsh and 9 hole Buffalo Heights, both of which have onsite restaurants.

Make your own art at Artistic Me. Painting pottery is an option, but much more original is to make fused glass objects. I've been making dishes for my own use. Making an ornament or garden stake or sun catcher will help you also capture memories of your time in Buffalo. It's also a great time to make someone you care about a gift, without any time pressures.
