Le Guide ai Quartieri

San Salvario is a multicultural, vibrant and fun neighborhood. Located between the Valentino Park and the train station, San Salvario has in recent years become the nighlife hub of Turin. Initially inhabited by the working classes coming from the rural regions around Torino and from the southern regions in the South of Italy, in the nineties the neighbourhood became an harbor for migrant communities arrving to the city. San Salvario has been a model of integration between locals and migrant communities. Even today, it is common to find restaurants, cafes and shops run by people from Marocco, Senegal, Bangladesh and China next to markets and stores selling italian delicacies. San Salvario has a green heart. Only a few steps away from the most important park in the city, the Valentino Park is a second home for all who live in the neighbourhood. Whether to jog, read a book, play soccer or having a go at the many slacklines hanging from trees, San Salvario is a playground for families during the day and a open air nightclub after 8 pm. San Salvario is a collection of microcosmos that represent the bohemienne soul of the city and despite all the changes and gentrification it has gone through the years, it continues to hold on to its own specific cultural identity.

Porta Palazzo is the beating heart of Turin. It is one of the largest open-air markets in Western Europe. It runs Monday to Friday from early in the morning (8 am-1 pm) and has longer hours on Saturday (8 am to 6 pm). An estimated 100, 000 people visit the market every week. Piazza della Repubblica is an octagon that is broken up into quadrants. The resellers selling wholesale products on one side, the butchers' covered market, the fish market, the farmers market. Shopping at an open air market is an unforgettable and unique sensory experience. Porta Palazzo has developed over time into one of the largest and most vital public spaces in Turin. With its multiethnic soul, Porta Palazzo brings vitality to the city. It has always harbored the migrant communities arriving in the city, from the people from the south who migrated north due to the FIAT car industry to more recent migrant communities from Marocco, Peru, Romania, Albania and China. Many of them now own their own stands, shops and restaurants in and around the square - making it the most multiethnic and vibrant area in town.

The food scene

Horas is an institution in San Salvario and 'the' place to have a Kebab or a Falafel. Bibo, whose origins are Egyptian, welcomes anyone who comes in to order calling them 'nigga'.
