Southern gourmet at it’s finest. The house was built in 1830 in the Federal style by J. W. Mauldin, a local politician. In 1840 a local merchant, Victor Wilson, bought the house. He and his wife, Jane, had a two-story portico added to the front of the house in 1847 to reflect the Greek Revival style.

Great Stop for Architecture and History Buffs Twenty-three columns are all that's left of the masion that survived the Civil War only to burn down in the late 1800's because of a carelessly tossed cigarette butt. It's remote location discourages many travelers, so you may have the ruins all to yourself, expecially on weekdays. Photographers can get some excellent shots here, but those who stray into the woods should be alert to snakes, poison ivy, and sometimes ticks and chiggers. Go prepared for these possibilities and take your own drinking water. There is signage on Highway 552 and on Rodney Road where you turn into a gravel drive.

This is a great half day trip from Mound to Flora. It takes about 50-60 mins to get to the Petrified Forest, but we’ll worth the drive! It is VERY VERY interesting site, and they have an incredible gift shop as well.

So much fun and unique things to see. The atmosphere is so inviting- great front porch, music playing, watching the river boats on the water as you sit on the front porch looking over and seeing the old train depot. Highly recommend

Night life

Great place to spend a Saturday night! It opened as a movie theatre in 1934, and closed about 30 years later. In 2011, the Westside Theatre Foundation began the ongoing task of rehabbing the theatre and bringing it back to life as a movie theatre and performance space.
