What an excellent find this restaurant was! Delicious food, outstanding service, and a charming historic location and atmosphere. Established in 1922 by our beloved Tia Monica Flin, El Charro Café of Tucson, Arizona is The Nation’s Oldest Mexican Restaurant in continuous operation by the same family. Our Tia Monica, a true entrepreneur and burgeoning chef, came to Tucson via France in the 1800’s when her father Jules, a famous stone-mason, was commissioned to build the city’s pristine St. Augustine Cathedral. Jules, whose signature work can be seen throughout Tucson’s Historic District, also built the families residence in 1896. This same building is now home to the Original Downtown El Charro Café location on Court Avenue. https://www.elcharrocafe.com

I discovered this quaint restaurant after touring the Tucson Museum of Art. It is located right next door and we were very pleased at the artistly decorated patio as well as the charming historical building in which the cafe is operated. Wonderful food and a very pleasing healthy selection! Located in the historic 1865 Stevens House on the grounds of the Tucson Museum of Art, Café à la C’Art is a unique space with a Monet-inspired garden patio. Our vibrant new dinner menu was created by executive chef and owner Mark Jorbin; also not to be missed is the pastry case stocked with handcrafted delights from the in-house pastry chef, including a signature Mixed Berry Buttermilk Cake and Chocolate Bomb. https://www.cafealacarttucson.com/

Mi Nidito has been serving Tucson since 1952. It was then that a couple who moved from Sonora made a decision that is still impacting the lives of their family three generations later. The decision was between opening a Mexican food restaurant or a tortilla factory. The restaurant won and that is how Mi Nidito was created. Some of the dishes that have made Mi Nidito popular are: chile relleno, flautas, birria (shredded beef), chimichangas (deep fried burros) and enchiladas. Known as some of the best in town, these dishes hit the spot. Mi Nidito has been chosen by Hispanic Magazine as one of the nations top hispanic resturants and has won numerous awards in the past.

I just got done eating dinner here and wow! So yummy! Super cool atmosphere and great service. Old Town Artisans is located on the site of El Presidio San Augustin del Tucson, the fort built by the Spanish in 1775 to stake claim to the northern frontier of New Spain. Our block was the stables area, and our north wall is the location of the fort’s north wall from which Apache attacks were repelled. Construction of the adobe buildings was begun in the 1850’s. The 1882 Tucson Directory lists a variety of early residents, including assayers, clerks, a ladies’ nurse and a grocery store. In 1888 Julius Goldbaum, a liquor merchant, bought the property for use as a distillery and his family’s residence. Stroll through the shops and you will see original ceilings made of saguaro cactus ribs, packing crates, and whiskey barrel staves with remnants of imported wallpaper and gold-leaf mouldings. https://oldtownartisanstucson.com/
