Although I am not a fan....loved the train so much more...I have come to realize that the need for fresh air outweighs my dislike of these noisy contraptions. The people look like they are having fun. Bring earplugs.

Although you may be here in the summertime, the ice arena is great fun for kids. It has been newly renovated and is perfect for youngsters who may just be learning how to skate. Saugerties is a nice town to visit while you are here and the shops are more interesting than Woodstock’s. The town is more down to earth. There is a good Chinese food restaurant, bookstore, lots of antique stores and plenty of pubs to grab a burger at, something harder to find these days in Woodstock. My father, who is 93, loves to browse the antique shops there every time he visits.

Why shop for tie dyes in Woodstock when you could be shopping for a Harley.

Must do. Especially if it has been raining a lot and water is high. Wear sneakers. Rent an extra tube for your cooler.

Janine and John Mower have been running this ever since I can remember. They are local historians. Their booth is the first one on the right at the entrance to the market. It has not changed since I’ve lived here. Buy something and let the kids run around.

Of all the festivals held at the Rhinebeck Fairgrounds this has to be hands down the best one! There is so much to see and do. Kids love it and if you are interested in purchasing real handmade goods this is a must. There are many exhibits for the whole family to enjoy. Watch a sheep get sheared and see the wool become yarn. There are tons of animals there. Plan on spending the whole day. When you are done, there are a plethora of good restaurants in the town of Rhinebeck. One of my favorites is Cinnamon, just South of Rhinebeck. If you are a vegetarian you’ll appreciate this authentic Indian restaurant. For more traditional fare treat yourself to dinner at The Beekman Arms.

African Dance Class 11:00 every Sat! Check out the place. Many classes there. Lovely spot tucked in by the artist’s cemetery. Schedule is posted in the vestibule. Go visit the artist’s cemetery. There is a lovely sitting area on top of the hill above the studio. Great spot to escape Woodstock.
