BEACH

Damnoni and Ammoudi are two beaches adjacent to each other, in the south part of Crete. The route to them lasts approximately 10-15 minutes. Damnoni is the largest one and is more organized than Ammoudi. There is a tavern near the beach and a hotel accommodates hundreds of guests every summer. Ammoudi is smaller and more picturesque than Damnoni and therefore it is always full of visitors.(Ammoudi It is also a well-known nudist beach). Both of them have thin pebbles and are known for their clean and cold waters. Damnoni beach is very popular and easily accessible both from Plakias (5km) and Koxare (14km). It is the most suitable option for families in comparison to the neighbouring beaches Shinaria and Ammoudi because of its crystal clear water, the sand-covered coast and the restaurants that you can find just next to the beach.

Beach of Preveli Crete The beach of Preveli is one of the most beautiful ones on the island. So, tourists and Cretans love it and visit it regularly. There are two ways to visit the beach: • The first one is to drive to the Monastery of Preveli and then step down to the beach. The route duration on foot is ca 10-15 minutes. • The second choice is driving to Plakias. A little boat will take you to the beach of Preveli. The boat sails at 10:30 and returns to Plakias at 16:00. The guest is charmed by the wonderful natural scenery, which is dominated by a river that flows into the sea, surrounded by tens of palm trees. It is worth visiting the river where one sees wonderful areas with small falls and rich vegetation. By the sea, there are a few small shops for souvenirs of food and an organized beach with umbrellas and sunbeds.

Ligres is a vast beach with coarse sand and fantastic deep sea. The relatively tough access has fortunately kept the development of tourism away, making it one of the nicest, tranquil and most secluded beaches on the island. The beach is not organized, but there are taverns and a few rooms on the west part of the beach, which can be accessed by car through a bad asphalt road. At the west end of the beach there is a beautiful waterfall having water all year round, which falls next to the sea!

gorge

Follow the signs to Plakias and just 1500 meters from the villa. This is one of the most beautiful gorges of Crete. Magnificent vertical cliffs can be seen on both its sides, reaching as high as 300 metres at several places. It is 2,5 kilometres long and the elevation difference between the entrance point and the outlet is 150 metres. The gorge is almost bare. It was formed from limestone, which is why there are numerous small caves along the way. It is a nesting and foraging area for many rare bird species, mostly raptors, a fact that justifies its international importance as a bird habitat. A little picturesque chapel can be seen approximately in the middle of the route, on the western side of the gorge, inside a cave.

Spili is located about 30km south of Rethymno, at an altitude of 430m, at the foot of Mount Vorizis, an offshoot of Psiloritis Mt. Its population is 800 inhabitants, but this number increases during the summer months. The villagers are mainly farmers, ranchers and merchants, but in recent years most young people deal with tourism. The village is a node for the south coasts and this makes its position particularly advantageous. Given the importance of its location, almost all basic services can be found in Spili, such as banks, post office, telecommunications, health center, police station and even the Cathedral Conference Center. Therefore, Spili is an ideal destination for foreigners and for Greeks, where they can combine their holiday without missing anything.
