Sightseeing

Our local village is a fifteen to twenty minute walk away (2 min drive). There are medieval buildings and a Roman bridge over the River Dropt. The Romanesque church is impressive. There is an excellent general grocery, Proxi, opposite the mairie and a friendly bar/restaurant. We highly recommend the ‘soirees gourmandes’ on Friday evenings throughout July and August.

There is a chateau with audio guides in English and a great view from the top of the tower and a light show on the castle walls in summer. There are foodie evenings with live music on Thursday evenings in summer. An excellent wine centre just outside the village with tastings of the local Côtes de Duras wines. 20km from Le Serpen.

Nature walk

The Lac de L'Escourou is very close to us - less than a five minute drive away. There is a footpath/ cycle path around the lake (about 9k) and some nice picnic spots. The upper part of the lake (2k circuit) is a nature reserve with hides for bird watching and information boards on the flora and fauna (some interactive ones for children).
